A big thank you to Joe and Barb Terpstra and family for hosting such a great event.

The Brussels Optimists would like to thank all those who helped make our 3rd Annual Classic Car Show on Saturday such a success. Thanks to all those who entered their vehicles, came as spectators, made donations and supported our BBQ. Thanks to our sponsors Pentastic Motors, Blake Farms, McDonald Home Hardware, Barry’s Service Centre, Brussels Transport, Radar Auto Parts, Orr Insurance, and Brussels Foodland. The staff from the BMGCC were a great help with cleaning up for the event.

The weather couldn’t have been better! It was nice to see so many from the community gathering together to catch up and share some memories. The smiles on the faces of the residents of Brussels Huronlea and the Highland Apartments during the drive-by made it even sweeter!! Thanks to Peter Jaycock for the excellent video. Check it out at Brussels TV. Hope to see everyone out again next year!!

At the end of the car show at 3 pm, it requested that participants form a parade to provide a rolling car show to the residents of nearby Brussels Huronlea and Highland Apartments at 820 Turnberry Street. They will be ready and waiting for us!!

Big weekend coming up in Brussels!

Our annual Brussels Optimist Car Show is happening this Saturday behind the arena.

President Kellington says the rain is getting itself out of the system today so we can enjoy a great weekend.

Your support is greatly appreciated. Even stopping by for a hamburger or hot dog for lunch helps, with proceeds going toward the Brussels Optimist Club’s local community projects and youth initiatives.

Then on Sunday, make sure you stop by the fire hall for the annual Father’s Day Firefighters’ Breakfast.

The Brussels Optimist Club is proud each year to support the firefighters by providing the use of our equipment for the breakfast, helping them continue the great work they do in our community.

Come out, grab a bite, check out some cars, support your local firefighters, and enjoy a great weekend in Brussels!

At last Monday’s meeting, the Brussels Optimist Club was pleased to donate $200 to the Brussels Library Branch in support of their Summer Reading Program.

The Club was also proud to donate $1,000 to BBMHA to help support youth hockey in our community and ensure more local kids have the opportunity to take part.

As Optimists, we are proud to be a “Friend of Youth” in Brussels, supporting programs and organizations that help local kids learn, play, grow, and stay involved in our community.

Thank you to the Brussels Library Branch and BBMHA for the important work you do for youth and families in our community.

The Brussels Foodland has been a long time, supporter of the club and supports pretty much every event we host. It would be great if you could take some time out of your day to help them in their attempt to win this award.

🏆 Huron East Hall of Fame Award

This weekend was a special one for the Brussels Optimist Club as we officially opened the new batting cage and handed it over to Huron East.

This project took longer than we hoped, cost more than we hoped, and had more than a few hurdles along the way, but seeing kids already using it this weekend made every bit of work worth it. We are very proud of this facility and what it will mean for local youth, families, teams, and the community as a whole.

A project like this does not happen without people stepping up. Thank you to every donor, volunteer, committee member, and supporter who helped bring this idea to life. Your generosity, time, equipment, materials, labour, and encouragement are what made this possible.

A special thank you to our batting cage committee, including John Groves, Tim Strickert, and Dwayne VanRavenswaay, who were absent for the photo but played an important role in getting this project across the finish line.

We also want to give a special mention to Jason Kellington. Jason was not officially on the committee, but he attended every work bee and helped as if he was. That kind of commitment is exactly what makes community projects like this possible.

Many many other community members attended the various work bees or helped with our fundraisers who have no affiliation to the optimist club, but just wanted to see this project come to fruition. There are too many of these people to mention, but we are extremely thankful for all the help we get from this incredible community.

Thank you as well to all of our sponsors. This facility simply would not exist without your generosity and belief in supporting local youth. We are proud to recognize you on the sponsor wall and grateful for your investment in our community.

Included are a few photos from the opening, including some Optimist members who were on hand, the batting cage committee, our first official user, and the sponsor wall.

Here’s hoping the batting cage stays busy, well used, and enjoyed for many years to come.

Thank you again to everyone who helped make this happen.
