Are you a strong willed person? Do you have a strong willed child? What are the dangers of a strong will & how do we combat it?
Self will is at the root of evil. We are on a dangerous path of sin whenever we choose our own will over the will & ways of the Father.
Sin entered into our world when the first created being, Satan, declared, “I WILL.” He then determined to do whatever it takes to fulfill it, with a sinful, heart motive, filled with pride & disobedience. Following our own will is synonymous to following him.
Redemption entered our world when Jesus Christ submitted to His Father & proclaimed, “I came only to do My Father’s will & not My own. NOT as I WILL, but only as He wills.” Jesus lived a life of full surrender, obedience & love to His Father.
Denying our own will to do the will of the Father places us on a path of holiness. It is the way of the cross. Each decision we make is to either follow the will of Jesus or of Satan.
Teaching our children to be respectful, obedient & surrendering their will is probably more critical than what we realize. As in all things, balance in understanding & caring for their heart is crucial. Yet, it should never hinder us from guiding them on a path of Christlike obedience & surrender.
Surrender, submission, honor, respect & obedience are in direct opposition to our fleshly, stubborn will. This concept is greatly unpopular in our world & many rebel against it. (🤔)Yet, true holiness & God’s peace, joy & purpose in our lives is never experienced without actively demonstrating them.
We can never become surrendered to the Father while rebelling, disrespecting or dishonoring authority figures in our lives. Even after being married, we’ve made an intentional choice to honor & respect our parents & to seek their council. Transitioning from a chain of command to one of council should still exemplify deep love, respect & honor.
Each time we choose to submit & surrender our will, we choose the way of Christ. The way of the cross. It’s an act of worship.
