September is Su***de Prevention & Awareness Month, and coming up on September 10th will be World Su***de Prevention Day (WSPD). The International Association for Su***de Prevention (IASP) established this day in conjunction with the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2003 to empower effective su***de prevention throughout the world.

This year's theme is "Changing the Narrative on Su***de" which IASP says "aims to inspire individuals, communities, organizations, and governments to engage in open and honest discussions about su***de and suicidal behaviour. By initiating these vital conversations, we can break down barriers, raise awareness, and create better cultures of understanding and support."

Every chat, no matter how small, builds a more supportive and understanding society. Together, we can make a difference and prioritize su***de prevention, ensuring everyone gets the help they need.

More information is available through the International Association for Su***de Prevention

When applying to rent an apartment or a house, landlords will ask various questions to determine your suitability as a tenant. But some questions you are not required to answer, and if a landlord tries to reject your application based on them, they are interfering with your rights.

The Ontario Human Rights Code prohibits actions that discriminate against people based on things like age, sexuality, gender expression, and religion. If you are unsure of what exactly a landlord can ask you, you can check out the Next Step Housing Connection website for more information on the Ontario Human Rights Code, as well as the Residential Tenancies Act and general tips for tenants.

Keeping everything in our lives under control can feel overwhelming, especially when so much of what happens around us is out of our hands. That’s why it can help to take a moment and remember what we **can** control, and what we can’t.

The next time things start to feel like a little too much, focus on what’s within your control: your choices, your actions, your priorities, and how you respond to what comes your way.

We can’t control everything around us, but we can choose where we put our energy. 🧡
