We’re proud of the amazing partnerships we continue to build with the Town of Aurora.
Impactful community work cannot happen efficiently and effectively while navigating red tape and bureaucracy. It happens when people are willing to create barrier-free opportunities that truly respond to the needs of the community.
A huge shoutout to Hailey Jones, Specialist, Sports & Community Development, one of the many town staff for her constant support and dedication.
Hailey has been one of the many strong staff members behind our I Can Swim (Barrier free swimming) program this season and our upcoming annual Back to School Sports Day Event, happening in August.
Stay tuned for more information; we’ve got more coming soon!
Thank you Hailey we love and appreciate you .jones12

Last night, our CEO had the honor of attending a beautiful gala hosted by A Rose for Grandma in Scarborough focused on dementia awareness and the impact it continues to have within the Black community.
The evening was powerful, educational, and deeply meaningful. It reminded us that community support, outreach, and advocacy should never be limited by postal code. While ABC is based in Aurora, our commitment to supporting and uplifting our people extends far beyond city boundaries, across communities, across countries, and across the globe.
It also made us reflect on Marcus Garvey’s vision of unifying Black people worldwide through collective strength, purpose, and support for one another. That spirit was present in the room last night — people coming together to educate, empower, and care for our elders, caregivers, and families.
A heartfelt thank you to Roses for Grandma for creating such an impactful and beautiful event. We are proud to stand alongside organizations doing the work to bring awareness, compassion, and resources to our communities.
Together, we continue building stronger, healthier, and more connected communities.

President Bobbie and CEO Phiona of the Aurora Black Community were proud to join One Canada in celebrating Asian Heritage Month alongside MPP Dawn Gallagher Murphy, Mayor Mrakas, and Councillor Kim. The meaningful occasion recognized the rich histories, vibrant cultures, and significant contributions of Asian communities across Canada.
“Celebrating our diverse communities strengthens the fabric of our nation. Events like these create opportunities for collaboration, partnership, and cultural exchange that help build deeper understanding and lasting connections,” said Phiona Durrant of the Aurora Black Community.
The evening highlighted the importance of unity through diversity and reaffirmed a shared commitment to inclusion, mutual respect, and community empowerment.

Please join us in welcoming Aaliyah to the Aurora Community Association team as our new Executive Assistant.
Aaliyah will be working closely in support of our leadership team, including our President, Bobbie Marshall. We’re excited to have her join the organization and look forward to the energy, professionalism, and support she will bring to our community.
As an organization that has operated solely through the dedication of volunteers, this is an important milestone for us. Aaliyah is our first official employee. Her role will significantly strengthen our administrative capacity, improve coordination, and help us better serve our community, partners, and stakeholders. Her role will support us to manage daily administrative operations, communications, scheduling and reporting!
This milestone was made possible through support from the Black Ideas Grant (B.I.G.) from the Foundation for Black Communities (FFBC). We are deeply grateful for this investment in our organization’s growth and sustainability, which is helping us strengthen our capacity to serve the community more effectively.
We also want to thank everyone for your patience, continued support, and encouragement as we navigate this transition and continue building stronger connections throughout the community.
Welcome aboard, Aaliyah! We’re thrilled to have you with us and excited for this next chapter for the Aurora Community Association.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Sandra Cobena for sponsoring the Power Forward Grant, an initiative that continues to move our community forward through education, entrepreneurship, support for newcomers, and economic empowerment.
Because of your generous support this year, two youths each received a $1,000 grant, enabling them to advance their education and pursue their business aspirations .
Your commitment to community growth and opportunity is creating a lasting impact, and we truly appreciate your dedication to empowering the next generation.
Thank you for believing in the potential of our community and helping us power forward together.

ANNOUNCEMENT 📣 We are proud to announce that BOBBIE has recently been elected as the new President of the Aurora Black Community (ABC)… A role previously held by Phiona Durrant.
Since joining the organization during its early beginnings in 2020/2021, BOBBIE has continuously demonstrated outstanding dedication, professionalism, care, and commitment, not only in her work, but throughout the community she serves. Her leadership, passion, and unwavering support have made a lasting impact from the very start.
As BOBBIE often shares through one of her favourite quotes by Dr. Caroline
“Growth becomes joy when we grow together. No one succeeds alone. Community is not competition — it’s collaboration. If we keep cheering for each other, we’re all moving faster.”
This message reflects the very spirit she brings to her leadership and the values that continue to strengthen our community every day.
Please join us in congratulating and welcoming BOBBIE into this important new role. We are excited for this next chapter and look forward to all that lies ahead under her leadership.
Congratulations, BOBBIE!
Congratulations NewBeginnings
