THE 2026 POPPY CAMPAIGN HAS OFFICIALLY STARTED!

The Poppy has been widely recognized as a symbol of Remembrance, since it was first adopted in 1921. By wearing the poppy, we demonstrate our gratitude to those who gave their lives for the freedom we enjoy.

Legions throughout Ontario from October 24 to Remembrance Day hold their Poppy Campaign. Millions of Canadians wear a Poppy as a visual pledge to never forget those who served and sacrificed. The red flower is also a symbol of the Legion’s Poppy Campaign, raising funds to support Veterans and their families in need. We invite everyone across the country to show their recognition by proudly wearing this symbol of Remembrance.

The Poppy

The basic purpose of the Poppy Fund is to provide immediate assistance to ex-service members in need. This may include food shelter or medical attention for them or their families.

Funds raised during the Poppy Campaign are also used for the following:

- Comforts for veterans in hospitals, care facilities, and hospice.
- Community medical appliances, research, and training.
- Donations to Charitable Foundation.
- Donations for disaster relief for disasters declared by Federal and Provincial Governments.
- Creation and maintenance of Cenotaphs.
- Expenses of the Branch Veteran Service Chairs.
- Provincial Service Bureau Offices.
- Donations for Leave the Streets Behind and Ruck 2 Remember.
- Donations for various veteran transition programs.
- Donations for Operation Service Dogs.
- Donations for Cadet Corps.
- Educational bursaries.
- Prizes for the annual Remembrance Day Poster and Literary (Poem and Essay) Contests.

The First Poppy 🌺 Premier coquelicot

Remembrance honours the past and keeps the stories of those who served alive.

This year’s Poppy Campaign is especially meaningful as the The Royal Canadian Legion - National Headquarters marks its 100th anniversary. For a century, its branches and volunteers have supported Veterans and their families, fostered a sense of belonging and honoured their service and sacrifice.

The poppy symbolizes remembrance, while the care provided at places like Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre reflects our enduring gratitude to Veterans.

Heartfelt thanks to the Royal Canadian Legion, Sunnybrook and the many volunteers and supporters who ensure that Veterans are remembered, supported and honoured.

Every Veteran has a story worth telling!

The Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Provincial Command is proud to provide $4,000 in funding through our Military Service Recognition Book (MSRB) program to support The MiCiv Project, an initiative under Soldiers In the Arts and its Veterans’ Week production, One of Us.

Bringing military and civilian artists together, this powerful production shares the lived experiences of Canadian Armed Forces Veterans, helping bridge the gap between military and civilian communities.

We are proud to support initiatives that honour service, amplify Veterans’ voices, and ensure their stories are never forgotten.

📅 One of Us will be presented November 6 - 8, 2026, in Toronto, Scarborough, and Nepean.

Royal Canadian Legion statement: CFB Wainwright tragedy
Oct 18, 2026.

OTTAWA, ON, 18 OCTOBER 2026 – The Royal Canadian Legion is profoundly saddened to learn of a tragic incident on the grounds of CFB Wainwright, an army base in Alberta, resulting in lost lives and many injuries.

The following statement is issued by Legion Dominion President Sharon McKeown.

“The Royal Canadian Legion is thinking of those who died or were injured, and we send deep condolences to the families whose loved ones have given their lives in service to Canada. We will Remember them. We also extend our help and support to their families, and those of the others injured in this tragedy. The organization recognizes the degree of this major loss, and the devastation felt by all members of the Canadian Armed Forces, a tightly knit family that continues to serve our country and keep us safe every day. At a time like this, we think of them too.”

The Legion will fly its flags across the country at half-mast in Remembrance. We thank all first responders and community members who are rallying in response.
