⭐ Euro NCAP drives change as more trucks achieve five stars than ever before ⭐
Euro NCAP’s latest Safer Trucks results show clear progress across the industry, with six out of eight trucks achieving the maximum five-star safety rating, more than double the number seen at the start of testing in 2024. Matthew Avery, Director of Strategic Development, presents these results during a presentation on truck safety at the National Highways Driver Safety Theatre, in this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham (UK). Dr. Aled Williams, Programme Director, is also presenting a Commercial Vehicle update in Chongqing, China, at the test facility CAERI, both speakers highlighting how independent testing is driving real-world improvements in truck safety. 🚛
Leading the results is the Scania L-series, delivering an outstanding all-round performance, closely followed by the Mercedes-Benz Actros, Volvo FM, Scania P-series, and MAN TGM, all securing five stars. Each of the tested vehicles was awarded the CitySafe label, a marker of strong performance in protecting cyclists and pedestrians in cities, showing notable and impactful progress in Crash Avoidance technologies across the segment. 🛣️
Alongside the five-star performers, the Renault Trucks D Medium and DAF XD also demonstrated solid progress, achieving four- and three-star ratings respectively, both earning the CitySafe label while highlighting further opportunities to strengthen overall safety performance. An additional five-star rating and CitySafe label was achieved by Scania with a vehicle in the Utility sector.⚙️
“Five five-star trucks in one round of testing is a very welcome record. And it means fleet operators and their buyers have never had such a strong choice of safe trucks in the Regional Distribution sector. But there is a caveat: when ordering a new addition for fleets, buyers need to tick the right boxes for the equipment listed on the datasheet to ensure the best-possible safety. While it might be a slightly more expensive truck initially, it’s a price worth paying to protect your colleagues, other road users, and your brand’s reputation,” explains Matthew Avery, Director of Strategic Development at Euro NCAP. 📈
As Euro NCAP prepares to assess City Distribution trucks later this year, the trajectory is clear: safety is becoming a defining factor in commercial vehicle design and procurement. ✅
