From 1 September 2026, a Permit to Burn will be required for most burning activities. Landholders must also
lodge a notification through the NSW RFS website and provide at least 24 hours' notice to adjoining neighbours
before lighting any fire."

🔥 "Before undertaking any burning activity, ensure you check the current and forecast weather conditions. Changing
weather, particularly increasing winds, can quickly cause a fire to escape and threaten life, property and the
environment."

The NSW RFS encourages residents to carefully plan any burn, have adequate firefighting
equipment available, and never leave a fire unattended

Wootton Brigade attended a major (400L) diesel spill on the highway last night. B double dropped a gearbox and punctured fuel tanks. Both northbound lanes blocked, traffic had to use breakdown lane. Assisted Bulahdelah contain the spill and control traffic until Fire & Rescue decanted the remaining fuel and towie arrived. Lots of hurry up and wait. FRNSW Tea Gardens, Taree and Newcastle all attended. Out for about 3 hours.

Chainsaw training Trimming / Felled Trees at Upper Markwell. Great instruction from the RFS Instructors and assessors that had a great depth of experience.

Burdekin Rd and Upper Myall River Road fire that started on Saturday 9 May. Two shifts from Wootton Cat 1 supported out of area crews to perform property protection and back burning .

While at the Bulahdelah fire Wootton1 was paged to another fire at Herival's Road, Wootton.

Tuncurry 1 was the first truck on scene, and were requesting additional resources.

On arrival back at station Brett was available as a crew of 1 and responded. Gangat 7 and Rainbow Flat 7 also assisted.

Thanks to Adam who arrived part way through, and to groupie Nathan Birchall who was hoseman until Adam arrived, the fire was extinguished and blacked out.

Wootton 1 - Bernard, Karen & Brett - responded to a bushfire on Old Inn Road, Bulahdelah today.

It was a private hazard reduction that had got away.

We helped Bulahdelah 1 and Gangat 7 do a backburn to contain it.

Blustery conditions didn't help

Today’s Fire Rating is HIGH.

Temperatures up to 28 C with wind gusts up to 38 km/h from North West.
These are not favorable conditions for fire burns where fires have burnt out of control from property owners

Newmans Rd fire attended by Wootton 1, Bulahdelah, Lime Burners Creek, North Arm Cove, Tuncurry and Wootton1.

Containment lines are being put in place with further monitoring over the next few days.

Thanks to those brigades that came from outside the Wootton area to assist.

If you are planning on burning:
-understand the weather conditions
-ensure you have water available to control your burn.
-apply for your notification reference at NSWRFS and inform your neighbours

If you are planning on a burn you still need to notify RFS to receive a notification reference number and notify your neighbours.

Whilst fire permits are no longer required until later this year you can complete the "Notify of your planned burn" at NSW RFS.

The Burn Notification for landholders now covers extended periods (e.g. April–September) rather than 21-day intervals.
