🚨STAY SAFE during the AusAlert tests!
What is AusAlert? The new system being set up to alert devices around Australia on urgent national emergencies.
📳On Monday 27th July, 2pm, a test alert will go out to devices all around the country. It is likely to be noisy until you can physically confirm you have read the message.
👉🏼There will also be Community tests ran throughout June. No where in the Illawarra is listed as a testing location, but please check the website (https://www.ausalert.gov.au/community-resources/staying-safe-ausalert -ausalert) if you are travelling in June.
⚠️HOWEVER: AusAlert may increase risk for people experiencing domestic violence, especially if they live with someone who uses violence.
Alerts may expose safety devices provided to victim survivors. This includes WESNET Safe Connection Phones that are provided to victim/survivors of domestic and family violence.
➡️If you have a secret device you need to keepy yourself safe, please consider taking the following measures:
• one hour before the test: turn off your mobile device
• during and after the test: keep your device off for 24 hours.
Important: you may still receive a community test alert if your device is on ‘silent’ or ‘do not disturb’.
• if possible, take the device out of earshot of the home to turn it back on. We do not know yet if the alarm will sound apon powering on your device.
