🚨STAY SAFE during the AusAlert tests!

What is AusAlert? The new system being set up to alert devices around Australia on urgent national emergencies.

📳On Monday 27th July, 2pm, a test alert will go out to devices all around the country. It is likely to be noisy until you can physically confirm you have read the message.

👉🏼There will also be Community tests ran throughout June. No where in the Illawarra is listed as a testing location, but please check the website (https://www.ausalert.gov.au/community-resources/staying-safe-ausalert -ausalert) if you are travelling in June.

⚠️HOWEVER: AusAlert may increase risk for people experiencing domestic violence, especially if they live with someone who uses violence.

Alerts may expose safety devices provided to victim survivors. This includes WESNET Safe Connection Phones that are provided to victim/survivors of domestic and family violence.

➡️If you have a secret device you need to keepy yourself safe, please consider taking the following measures:
• one hour before the test: turn off your mobile device
• during and after the test: keep your device off for 24 hours.
Important: you may still receive a community test alert if your device is on ‘silent’ or ‘do not disturb’.
• if possible, take the device out of earshot of the home to turn it back on. We do not know yet if the alarm will sound apon powering on your device.

The eSafety Commission provides helpful information for parents on how to protect your kids from sexual abuse online.

For advice, resources and information, go to www.esafety.gov.au/parents/issues-and-advice/protecting-children-from-sexual-abuse-online/

eSafety's top tips:
✅ Have regular, age‑appropriate conversations with your child about what they do online, who they’re talking to, and how it makes them feel. This can help them spot risks and speak up early if something goes wrong.

✅ Use parental controls on apps and games together, learn about the platforms your child uses, and watch for changes in behaviour that may signal something isn’t right.

✅ Read our book ‘Let’s talk about being safe online’ with your child to explore online safety through simple, open conversations. You can also order your free copy!

✅ Most importantly, let children know they won’t get in trouble for asking for help.

Throughout the 80's and 90's, the Women's Centre on Corrimal Street became a central hub for feminist cultural and political activity in Wollongong.

The passionate and determined women who met up at the centre back then paved the way for many wonderful women's services that exist today - across women's health, housing and domestic violence services. They fought for future generations of women to have access to work, safety and support.

We're still here, in that same house on Corrimal Street, and we want to continue to carry on the legacy of our foresisters, by improving our facilities and opening up services to help more women with a range of problems they may have.
