🚗✈️🚂⚓ Get Your Kicks in 2026 – Your Highway to FUN! ⚓🚂✈️🚗

The Queensland State Square Dance Convention is coming up this August, and Dale and I are looking forward to attending.

This year’s theme is all about travel, with dancers encouraged to get creative with costumes inspired by road trips, trains, planes, ships, bicycles, hiking adventures, favourite destinations and more.

We’re curious…

❓ Have you ever attended a Square Dance Convention?

👍 Yes, many times!
❤️ Yes, once or twice.
😮 Not yet, but I’d love to.
😂 What’s a Square Dance Convention?

If you’ve been before, tell us your favourite convention memory in the comments.

If you’ve never been, what would encourage you to give one a try?

Welcome to our village.

We're not the biggest club.

We're not the fanciest club.

But we're building something we're incredibly proud of.

A place where people can show up exactly as they are.

A place where friendships grow.

A place where people are encouraged, supported and included.

Some people come alone.
Some come with partners.
Some are LGBTQ+.
Some are allies.
Some have danced for years.
Some are taking their very first steps.

What matters isn't where you've come from.

What matters is that you feel welcome when you arrive.

Creating spaces where people belong.

If you've been looking for community, we'd love to meet you.

Come dance with us.

Everybody counts.

📬 They’re here!

Our Tropic Twirlers business cards and flyers have just arrived — and they look amazing.

If you’d like a stack to share with friends, leave at your workplace, or pop in a community space, reach out and we’ll get some to you.

This Sunday is our last Open House — the perfect moment to get the word out.

After that we’re gearing up for a brand new beginners class starting 19 July.

Help us spread the word — every card in the right hands could be someone’s first step onto the dance floor. 💃🕺

National Day of Connection may be over, but connection doesn't happen on just one day each year.

It happens when people keep showing up.

That's exactly what our beginner classes are all about.

Learning something new.
Meeting new people.
Sharing laughs.
Building confidence.
Finding community.

Our next beginner class starts in just one month.

No experience needed.

No partner needed.

Just bring yourself.

We'll help with the rest.

Because everybody counts.

🌈 Why do LGBTQ+ welcoming spaces matter in regional communities?

Because everybody deserves somewhere they can simply show up and be themselves.

Regional communities are full of wonderful people, but finding spaces where LGBTQ+ people feel comfortable, visible and included can sometimes be challenging.

Welcoming spaces aren't about excluding anyone.

They're about ensuring nobody feels excluded.

At Tropic Twirlers we're building a community where LGBTQ+ people, allies, friends, families and supporters can share the same dance floor, make connections and build friendships.

The result isn't a separate community.

It's a stronger one.

On this National Day of Connection, we're reflecting on the power of belonging and the importance of creating opportunities for people to come together across different backgrounds and experiences.

Connection and Community can change lives.

And sometimes it starts with something as simple as saying:

"You're welcome here."

Today is Australia's first National Day of Connection.

At Tropic Twirlers, connection is at the heart of everything we do.

Not because we're a dance club.

Because we're a community.

Every week people show up not knowing many faces.

Then they laugh together.
Learn together.
Move together.
Share a cuppa together.

And slowly those strangers become friends.

National Day of Connection reminds us that community isn't something that happens somewhere else.

It's built by ordinary people who decide to show up for one another.

So today we're asking:

Who could you connect with?

Who could you encourage?

Who could you invite?

Who needs to know they belong?

If you've been wondering whether square dancing might be for you, come and find out.

Our village has room for you.

Everybody counts.

National Day of Connection is tomorrow.

So here's a challenge:

Who could you invite?

Someone new to Cairns?
Someone who works from home?
Someone who's recently retired?
Someone looking to make new friends?
Someone who's been saying "I should get out more"?

Connection often starts with a simple invitation.

You never know how much that invitation might mean to someone.

If you've been enjoying our Pride Open House month, invite somebody along this Sunday.

Community grows one person at a time.

Everybody counts.
