It was our privilege to present the Pet Parade at the 65th Geraldton Greenough Sunshine Festival. Thank you to The Lens Lifestyle for giving us permission to share their amazing photos that were taken at the parade. We hope you like them too. 📸

The Pet Parade is open to all pets and we were surprised to see the interesting assortment of dogs that joined us this year. Thank you to all who entered, whether it was for one or every category. We hope you will join us again next when we’re back at Stow Gardens in front of the Geradton Yacht Club.

Thank you to City of Greater Geraldton for supporting & promoting the Sunshine Festival & to the incredibly small but hardworking Geraldton Greenough Sunshine Festival committee & volunteers who organised the day for us all to enjoy. This year the weather was perfect & we all had a great day. We’re always so grateful for the spectators who gather around with excitement to see the pets and their costumes.

We had so much fun in the Geraldton Greenough Sunshine Festival float parade. With some recycled fabric bunting and some repurposes puppy dog toys, we created a simple way to promote Geraldton Dog Rescue and be part of the 65th parade. Milestones like this one are extra special and Geraldton Dog Rescue is very pleased to be involved. Thank you for the waves & cheers as we followed the route around Maitland Park.

🐶 HUGO 🐶 is a large mixed breed pup about 9 months old & weighs about 30kg. He’s vet checked, vaccinated, microchipped, and sterilised. Adoption fee is $500.00.

Hugo is house-trained and uses the doggy door. He has no aggression whatsoever. His recall is good but not yet 100% (he’s a young, impulsive pup). We strongly suggest a long training lead so you know he’ll come back every time! When resting, he’s like a teddy, loving time on the couch and being petted.

He has the craziest curls going on & will require brushing every day. Hugo will also need regular grooming to keep the curls in check. He doesn’t love his coat being brushed but he is getting better. Hugo has a bundle of energy and even after his daily 4km walk, he’s still bouncing around. He could really enjoy another dog’s company and/or people who are home more often than not. Due to his size, adults or a family with adult or older teenage children will be better suited to managing Hugo’s energy & playfulness.

With all his energy and size, he’s still learning to use his stopping skills. His brakes & indicators are optional at the moment, so he needs plenty of space and people who can predict where he’s going! A bit like some cars!

Our Thank You posts for the Geraldton Greenough Sunshine Festival Sunday 4th October 2026 are done, but this post is in appreciation to the festival committee for all their hard work in putting the event together! Incredible is all we can say! Their day started at 5.30am & they were there long after we left. Thank you & well done team!

If you have any photos from the Float Parade that you’re happy to share with us, please post them in the comments. We’ve started with photos of our friends on the back of the ute. You would’ve noticed the Ute tray was covered with a canopy for shade and the dogs sat on their soft cushion beds. We also secured a seatbelt to their harness so they couldn’t fall off the Ute as we made our way around Maitland Park.

We’re not fans of extendable leads for all of these 10 reasons too. A long training lead is much safer & easier to manage.

🚨 Retractable leashes might seem convenient, but they come with real risks for your dog.

They allow too much distance, encourage pulling, can snap and cause burns or serious injuries, and reduce the control you need to keep your dog safe around traffic, other animals, or sudden situations. Over time the mechanism can also fail, leaving you with even less control.

Many trainers and vets recommend against them for these reasons. For safer walks and better leash manners, choose a standard leash instead — it’s simpler, more reliable, and gives both of you a better experience. 🐕💗
