Geraldton Streetwork Aboriginal Corporation

Call Directions

Geraldton Streetwork Aboriginal Corporation Streeties is a proud Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation that has been deeply embedded into the Geraldton community since the 1990's.

The Geraldton Streetwork Aboriginal Corporation is an award winning Youth organisation and is recognised as one of the most efficient and proactive youth programs in the Mid West Region of Western Australia. Amongst many other programs GSAC exists to reduce the incident of Juvenile crime by providing counselling and programmes for the social development of youth by providing clients with emotional support and promoting desirable skills and values. GSAC is governed by an all volunteer Board of Directors. GSAC operates on two sites- the town based youth centre in Eastward Road, and Gunnado
Farm 5 klms east of Walkaway. GSAC owns Gunnado freehold and has done so since 1993. In 1987, in response to a community need to address the perceived problem of numbers of
youth, perceived to be mainly of Aboriginal descent, being on the streets in the C*D area and the potential connections with disturbances and/or street crime, community volunteers would walk the streets to talk with the young people present. Two youth councillors were then funded
by the Federal Department of Employment, Education and Training. This program has expanded and continues today. Every Thursday five staff will drive out to the C*D to engage with the children, providing food and fun.

Yamatji on Country is a significant regional gathering that brings together First Nations peoples to support meaningful conversations, share experiences, and explore solution-focused responses to community issues.

The outcomes of these discussions are presented to key stakeholders, including government representatives and decision-makers, to help shape more effective and collaborative approaches in partnership with First Nations people.

Yamatji on Country is a chance for community to drive the changes we need to see.

Thank you to YMAC for continuing to bring together this important platform for community voices to be heard.

Many voices. One purpose. Seeking change.
