🌟 Welcome to SHINE, Waggrakine! 🌟

We are so excited to welcome the girls of Waggrakine Primary School to SHINE as they take part in our Shimmer Program this semester ✨️

With Waggrakine joining the SHINE family, Shimmer is now being delivered across three primary schools in Geraldton. This is something we are very proud of!

Shimmer is designed to give girls a strong foundation as they prepare for the transition to high school, helping to build confidence and resilience, strengthen relationship skills and develop the tools needed to navigate change and new challenges.

By supporting girls early, Shimmer helps with entering high school confidently and ready to engage, setting the foundation for strong attendance, positive relationships and continued engagement in education 🌟

SHINE works with over 200 girls and young women across the Mid West and we are very excited to welcome these gorgeous happy faces from Waggrakine Primary School into our SHINE community πŸ’–

We are looking forward to watching you grow, connect and shine this semester πŸ’«

πŸ–€πŸ’›β€οΈ NAIDOC Week 2026 β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ–€

As this years NAIDOC week comes to a close it's a good reminder that embedding our First Nation's culture into our everyday lives can extend beyond this celebratory week.

If you're looking for ways to continue your cultural learning and allyship, some suggestions for ways to do this are; booking local cultural tours, visiting Aboriginal Art Gallery's, reading works by Indigenous authors, engaging with local cultural events and searching online for resources from registered Aboriginal business via Supply Nation.

However you choose to continue your learning journey, just remember even the smallest of steps is a step forward and "from little things, big things grow" 😎

🌟 New local language app 🌟

Very cool initiative! 😎
Check out the story below from ABC Midwest and Wheatbelt

Wajarri and Māori man Tamati Smith, from Geraldton, has developed a free AI-powered Wajarri language tutor to make learning language easier and more accessible.

Named Tjaarmann (jar-main) in honour of his late mum, Dr Charmaine Papertalk Green, the project is a tool to help keep Wajarri language strong for future generations.

Mr smith is independently building the app, which is based on the community Wajarri dictionary and aims to teach users accurate language.

Mr Smith said he hoped the project encouraged more people to reconnect with Wajarri language and inspired other communities to explore similar technology for their own languages.

"I honestly want as many people to be using it in this community as possible," he says.

"There's culturual aspects [in the app] as well like place names.

"I want people to be able to easily find [that information]."

πŸ’š Think Feel Heal πŸ’š

We are so excited about this collaboration and we cannot wait to get these laces out to our Meekatharra District High School and Mount Magnet District High School Shine and Shimmer students 🌟

Please head over to the Think Feel Heal page to follow along this very important initiative and let's keep our local youth thinking, feeling and healing their way through their emotions πŸ’š

Last term we were invited to collaborate with Shine Today, sharing the concept behind our Think Β· Feel Β· Heal initiative and presenting laces to the Meekatharra and Mount Magnet Shine girls. We sat down and heard about the fantastic work Shine continue to do in our community empowering young women to reach their goals and aspire towards leadership in their communities. We are very excited to see our green laces are heading out to our more remote areas, bringing communities together πŸ’š
