🐻❤️ Nearly 100 handmade Trauma Teddies have been donated to the Wombat Ward at Launceston General Hospital!

This week, Australian Red Cross proudly delivered a bundle of knitted bears that will help bring comfort, reassurance and a smile to children receiving care at the Wombat Ward.

Each teddy has been lovingly handcrafted by talented volunteers from across Tasmania, with many hours of knitting going into every bear. The teddies were then stuffed by community members at AGFEST and by students from Riverside High School in Launceston, making this a truly community-powered effort.

A huge thank you to every volunteer, student and supporter who helped bring these special bears to life. Together, you're helping provide comfort to children and families when they need it most. ❤️🐻

So thankful for our First Responders.

🚒 Thank a First Responder Day

Today we’re saying thank you to all first responders who help keep our community safe.

This year, we’re especially highlighting the work of Ulverstone Fire Brigade, one of Tasmania’s oldest and busiest volunteer brigades.

Established in 1909, Ulverstone Fire Brigade has been protecting the local community for more than 115 years. Every brigade member is a volunteer, giving their time to respond to emergencies, train, upskill and support the community when they are needed most.

Over the past year, the brigade responded to 258 incidents, including calls in Ulverstone and support for other local communities across the region.

With 31 operational firefighters and one support volunteer, Ulverstone Fire Brigade plays a major role in emergency response across the Mersey District, with around one-third of the district’s TFS incident calls occurring in Ulverstone.

On Thank a First Responder Day, we recognise the skill, commitment and service of all first responders, and thank the Ulverstone Fire Brigade for its extraordinary contribution to our community.

It’s National Volunteer Week and it’s a good time to consider becoming a volunteer . Today a lunch was held in the Ulverstone hall to thank and recognise our volunteers from many divisions of Red Cross . Worth celebrating! 🏅🏅

Today is World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.

We honour the Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers and staff who show up every day for people in crisis. They are not separate from the communities they serve, they are part of them.

Beyond every emergency, every response and every emblem, there is one truth: We are united in humanity.

Yet again , someone has confused a book library with a charity bin . 😏. If anyone local is able to collect it and take it to the Red Cross shop , or any charity shop , we’d be grateful. This pic was sent to me and I’m not in Ulverstone this weekend, so would appreciate the help , particularly as it will be raining tomorrow.

Pleased to be able to help CWA Ulverstone Branch by providing some much needed storage for them . It’s all about Community. 😊

We want to extend a massive, heartfelt thank you to the Red Cross in Ulverstone for their incredible generosity. They have provided our NW CWA groups with a dedicated small shed to house our tubs of handmade crafted items!

As many of you know, our members stay busy year-round creating items for those in need. Having this central storage space is a total game-changer as we prepare these gifts for distribution across the NW Coast—from Latrobe all the way to Strahan.

These handcrafted treasures will soon find their way to:
• ✨ Aged care centres
• ✨ Child care groups
• ✨ Local emergency services

A special shout-out to the ever-positive and encouraging Colleen Day and the wonderful Friends of Red Cross team. 😇😇😇😇😇Your support makes our mission so much easier and is a true testament to the power of community collaboration.

When local groups support one another, the whole coast shines a little brighter! 🌟
