Expressions of Interest for the UTS LSS x SULS Nicholas Cowdery AO KC Criminal Law Moot are OPEN NOW!
This is one of the most prestigious bilateral mooting competitions on the UTS LSS calendar, bringing together some of the strongest student advocates from the University of Technology Sydney and the University of Sydney to compete in a high-level criminal law moot.
Named in honour of Mr Nicholas Cowdery AO KC — former Director of Public Prosecutions for New South Wales from 1994 to 2011 and one of Australia’s most distinguished criminal barristers — this moot offers competitors the unique opportunity to appear before a bench chaired by Mr Cowdery himself, alongside a number of eminent judges and practitioners.
As an intervarsity bilateral moot, the competition takes the form of a one round, ‘winner takes all’ competition. Competitors will grapple with a complex criminal law problem requiring advanced advocacy, legal research and written submission skills.
The UTS LSS will send one team consisting of three (3) students — Senior Counsel, Junior Counsel and Instructing Solicitor — to compete against representatives from the Sydney University Law Society (SULS). Experienced mooters are strongly encouraged to apply.
This year, the competition will be hosted by SULS.
