Expressions of Interest for the UTS LSS x SULS Nicholas Cowdery AO KC Criminal Law Moot are OPEN NOW!

This is one of the most prestigious bilateral mooting competitions on the UTS LSS calendar, bringing together some of the strongest student advocates from the University of Technology Sydney and the University of Sydney to compete in a high-level criminal law moot.

Named in honour of Mr Nicholas Cowdery AO KC — former Director of Public Prosecutions for New South Wales from 1994 to 2011 and one of Australia’s most distinguished criminal barristers — this moot offers competitors the unique opportunity to appear before a bench chaired by Mr Cowdery himself, alongside a number of eminent judges and practitioners.

As an intervarsity bilateral moot, the competition takes the form of a one round, ‘winner takes all’ competition. Competitors will grapple with a complex criminal law problem requiring advanced advocacy, legal research and written submission skills.

The UTS LSS will send one team consisting of three (3) students — Senior Counsel, Junior Counsel and Instructing Solicitor — to compete against representatives from the Sydney University Law Society (SULS). Experienced mooters are strongly encouraged to apply.

This year, the competition will be hosted by SULS.

🖊️ Apply individually or as a team here: https://bit.ly/NCCrimMoot26.

Registrations are closing at 11:59pm on Saturday, 20 June 2026.

The wait is finally over. The UTS LSS Clerkship Guide 2026 is here!

Whether you are preparing to apply this clerkship season, trying to better understand the process, or simply looking to start preparing early, this year’s Guide has been designed to support UTS Law students at every stage of their degree.

Clerkship applications can often feel overwhelming and uncertain, particularly when expectations are not always clearly defined. The Clerkship Guide aims to simplify that process by providing practical guidance, industry insight and student perspectives all in one place. This year’s edition includes guidance on navigating the clerkship process, insights into firm selection and practice areas, advice for written applications and interviews, student testimonials and reflections from successful clerks, alongside practical resources to help students approach the process with greater clarity and confidence.

This year’s Guide also includes dedicated networking guidance for first-generation law students, as well as broader advice on building professional connections within the legal industry.

The UTS LSS would like to sincerely thank our sponsors, contributors, student voices and designers for their incredible efforts in bringing this publication together. We also extend our appreciation to the Careers (Publications) Subcommittee for their work in preparing and refining this year’s edition.

Finally, thank you to Careers (Publications) Director, Oishe Rahman, and Vice President (Careers), Jessica Trinh, for overseeing the publication of the 2026 Clerkship Guide.
