๐Ÿ” Introducing our newest volunteers... Emotional Support Chickens! ๐Ÿ”

This week, we received one of the most delightful donations we've ever had at the House, two hand-knitted Emotional Support Chickens!

While they may not lay eggs, they are guaranteed to bring smiles, spark conversations and brighten someone's day. Each one has its own personality and charm, and we can't help but smile every time we see them.

What made the donation even more special was the generous offer to knit more. It is a wonderful reminder that kindness comes in many forms, and sometimes the smallest gestures can have the biggest impact.

In a world that can feel a little serious at times, perhaps we could all benefit from an Emotional Support Chicken. ๐Ÿ”โค๏ธ

A huge thank you to the talented community member Jan who created these delightful little companions. They have already brought plenty of joy to the House.

It has inspired some of our volunteers and participants to knit their own!

Help us name these two cuties?

While we are not in the habit of turning people away, the extra workload we have seen in 3 days to support those who are seeking the adds to our already stretched team of staff and volunteers.

Some of you may have heard me on ABC Gippsland Radio yesterday. This initiative is much needed but difficult for those who find accessing things online difficult.

Phoebe Hicks - Manager

Neighbourhood Houses Victoria proposed a partnership for the Registration Rebate, which would have funded our work in helping community access the rebate.

They rejected the proposal, and told us there was no funding available to assist community members who face challenges with digital literacy, digital access, language barriers and more. They are expected to apply via the website or app, or miss out on the rebate.

We think that is incredibly unfair and a poor effort from the State Government, with horrible outcomes for both our most vulnerable community members and our already underfunded Neighbourhood Houses.

Please let your local MP, Ingrid Stitt MP and Luba Grigorovitch MP know that our community deserves better!

Yesterday we held our with a delicious array of treats and guest speaker Tracey Di Ciero .

Tracey generously shared about her own experience being touched by cancer, which she has written about in her book "Empowered and Resilient".

With more than 160,000 new cancer diagnosis annually in Australia, so many people are impacted by this. Funds raised will go towards research, support and prevention through the Cancer Council Australia

Thankyou to those who attended. Thanks to our volunteers Britt and Amron who helped set up and pack down the room and Yvette for drawing our raffle prizes.

1800MEDICARE app (formerly my health app) is a secure and convenient way to view key health information that you, your healthcare providers or representatives have uploaded to My Health Record.

Itโ€™s fast, easy, and secure โ€“ and you can access and share it all from the palm of your hand.
