🀟 Ready to Learn Auslan? 🀟

Whether you joined us before and are keen to continue your journey, or you've always wanted to learn but haven't taken the first step yet, now is the perfect time!

Auslan is more than a language, it has it's own history and culture and it's a way to connect, communicate and build a more inclusive community.

Learn from Peter who is a member of the Deaf Community, sharing his first language in an immersive way.

🌟 Returning students – keep building your confidence and skills.
🌟 New students – no experience needed, everyone starts somewhere!
🌟 Learn in a welcoming, supportive environment.
🌟 Discover the unique visual and spatial nature of Auslan and Deaf culture.

We already have participants travelling from across Gippsland to attend our classes, and we'd love to welcome even more people from our local community.

A few weeks ago I was invited to Parliament House by Minister Luba Grigorovitch along with others from the sector.

She communicated the value of Neighbourhood Houses in Victoria, I look forward to seeing the continued support by local and state Ministers for our Houses and Community Centres. Especially in regional, rural and remote Gippsland.

Our amazing Neighbourhood Houses Gippsland couldn't do what we do without our amazing volunteers and the funding we rely on from our State Government.

We continue to advocate for an increase to see the good work continue.

Australians do love a long weekend!

This Monday, many of us will be raising a cup of tea to King Charles on his "un-birthday" and enjoying a well-earned break.

The Traralgon Neighbourhood Learning House will be closed on Monday, with our staff and volunteers taking the opportunity to rest, recharge and spend time with family and friends.

πŸ“Œ Please note: Auslan classes will be running as usual.

We hope everyone enjoys a safe and relaxing long weekend and we look forward to seeing you back at the House soon.

πŸ” Introducing our newest volunteers... Emotional Support Chickens! πŸ”

This week, we received one of the most delightful donations we've ever had at the House, two hand-knitted Emotional Support Chickens!

While they may not lay eggs, they are guaranteed to bring smiles, spark conversations and brighten someone's day. Each one has its own personality and charm, and we can't help but smile every time we see them.

What made the donation even more special was the generous offer to knit more. It is a wonderful reminder that kindness comes in many forms, and sometimes the smallest gestures can have the biggest impact.

In a world that can feel a little serious at times, perhaps we could all benefit from an Emotional Support Chicken. πŸ”β€οΈ

A huge thank you to the talented community member Jan who created these delightful little companions. They have already brought plenty of joy to the House.

It has inspired some of our volunteers and participants to knit their own!

Help us name these two cuties?
