Span will be closing for a few days during the school holidays, allowing the staff to reset and refresh, ready to welcome you back for Term 4 - commencing Monday, 06 October.

Span will be closed to the public on Thursday, 25th and Friday, 26th September and Thursday, 02 and Friday, 03 October.

We hope you have a great long weekend, and if interested enjoy the AFL festivities. It certainly is a great time for Melbourne to showcase all it has to offer.

🌼🚶‍♀️ Our Walking Group Has Begun! 🚶‍♂️🌼

What a perfect day to kick things off — blue skies, warm spring air, and bursts of golden wattle along Darebin Creek. 🌞💛

Eight keen walkers joined us this morning, enjoying fresh air, friendly chats, and the simple joy of moving together in nature.

Our walking group is a great way to connect, get active, and soak up the beauty of the season. We’d love for you to join us next time! 🌿✨

🌞 The End of Winter Is in Sight! 🌱

After a stretch of glorious weather, things are starting to shift in the Community Garden — and we’re loving the signs of spring popping up! 🌼🌿

From tiny buds to greener paths, nature is slowly waking up. It won’t be long before we’re back to digging, planting, and watching everything bloom.

👀 Keep your eyes peeled — we’ll be sharing spring planting tips soon to help you get the most out of the season ahead!

Please note that "drawing paper" means any blank paper that can be used by kinder kids (if it has something printed on the back, please make sure it's appropriate for children). We are collecting a few other things too. See below!

🌿🐝 Exciting news for Span Community House!

We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve received a 2025 Carmen’s Tree for Bees Community Tree Grant from the and 🐝💛
With this support, our Good Bugs Volunteer Gardening Club will transform part of Span into a vibrant native pollinator cottage garden. Featuring over 82 native plants — from paper daisies to Bulbine bulbosa — plus a bird bath water feature and habitat rocks, this space will provide year-round food, shelter, and habitat for native bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.

A huge thank you to the Wheen Bee Foundation and Carman’s Kitchen for helping us bring beauty, biodiversity, and community connection to life here at Span 🌸

Loneliness is more than just a feeling—it’s a critical issue and a recognised public health priority in many countries around the world. Despite its impact and prevalence, loneliness remains misunderstood and rarely spoken about here in Australia.

Loneliness Awareness Week, led by Ending Loneliness Together, shines a light on this shared human experience. It calls on individuals, communities, workplaces, schools, and governments to take meaningful steps to reduce loneliness and foster deeper, more supportive social connections.

At Span Community House, we believe in the power of small moments to build a sense of belonging. Whether it’s a warm hello, a shared activity, or simply being present for someone, these everyday connections matter—especially for young people.

Let’s reflect on how we can make moments matter at home, at school, at work, online, and in our community. Because together, we can create a more connected and compassionate Australia.
