The next Census is on Tuesday 11 August 2026. A successful Census leads to better decisions, policies, and outcomes for our communities. It’s important we have the right people in the right jobs to make sure everyone is counted.
We can’t do the Census without our temporary field workforce. They collect the data that helps us all understand more about Australia and how it’s changing.
We are now hiring over 16,000 Field Officers
There are Field Officer jobs available in your area, and in most parts of Australia.
Field Officers are the local face of the Census. They deliver Census letters and forms, answer questions from the public and follow up with households that have not yet responded.
Applications open from 20 April 2026. To be considered in the first round of applications, we encourage people to submit their application by 18 May 2026.
How you can help
Encourage your community to visit census.abs.gov.au/jobs for more information and to apply.
Use the resources in your stakeholder toolkit to share a social media post, put up a poster, and spread the word through your newsletter or website.
Answer questions from your community using the key messages provided.
