The latest update on fires across the Inverell and Tenterfield LGAs is now available.

While all fires are currently contained and at the Advice level, firefighting operations remain ongoing.

Permits are suspended until further notice

🛑 Fire permits in the Inverell and Tenterfield LGAs have been suspended‼
With fires already burning and fire danger increasing, do not light or continue a burn under a suspended permit.

Breaches will be investigated and could lead to fines or prosecution. If a fire escapes, it could threaten lives and property and bring more serious consequences. Please help keep further fire out of the landscape.🚒🚫⚠️

🚒 A busy day for Steinbrook 7 & 9!

Today, Steinbrook 7 and 9 were deployed to assist Frazer’s Cutting Brigade at the Ogilvie Road fire.

🔥 Steinbrook 9 was tasked with providing protection for a dozer while an important firebreak was constructed.

Once released from that task, Steinbrook 7 and 9 were redirected to Paddy’s Flat Road to investigate reports of smouldering logs. After checking the area, photos and an update were sent through to Fire Comm before both trucks were released to head home.

Update: 5pm: The fire burning near Paddys Flat Road and Bruxner Road has slowed, with firefighters gaining the upper hand.
The fire has burnt just over 80 hectares and is currently being controlled.
Firefighters will use tonight’s cooler conditions to identify containment lines and continue work to bring the fire under control.
Weather conditions over the coming days are expected to be more favourable, with moderate fire danger forecast.

Emergency Warning: Bruxner Hwy Fire, Tabulam (Tenterfield LGA) - Seek Shelter Now: Those in the Bruxner Rd and Paddy's Flats Rd area

An emergency warning is in place for the Bruxner Rd and Paddy's Flat Rd area, west of Tabulam due to a bush fire. The fire is spreading in an easterly direction towards the Clarence River and Clarence River Rd.

If you are in the area of Bruxner Rd and Paddy's Flat Rd, you are at risk. Seek shelter now or as the fire approaches. It is too late to leave.

Permits suspended until Monday 7th

FIRE PERMITS SUSPENDED – THURSDAY 3rd September until MONDAY 7th September
due to the forecast High Fire Danger, all fire permits in Inverell, Tentrerfield and Glen Innes LGA's are suspended from midnight today until Midnight Monday morning.
This measure is being taken to reduce the risk of fires starting and spreading under the heightened fire conditions.
If you currently hold a fire permit, you are unable to light new fires or stoke up existing fires during the suspension period. Please ensure any planned burns or activities requiring a permit are postponed.
Failure in complying with this suspension WILL result in heavy fines.

North to northwesterly winds will strengthen on Sunday ahead of a cold front forecast to cross NSW later on Sunday. Vigorous west to northwesterly winds will follow on Monday as a low pressure system moves into Bass Strait, extending gusty conditions broadly over the Great Dividing Range, the Hunter Valley and elevated terrain over eastern New South Wales.

💨 For SNOWY MOUNTAINS above 1500 metres: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are likely during Sunday, easing later on Monday.

💨 For ALPINE AREAS above 1900 metres: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 125 km/h are likely during Sunday, easing during Monday morning.

💨 For the GREAT DIVIDING RANGE broadly: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are possible from Monday morning, becoming more likely during Monday afternoon, then gradually easing from early Tuesday morning.

💨 For the HUNTER VALLEY, including NEWCASTLE: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 km/h are likely during Monday afternoon, easing later on Monday evening.

Today, four Local Government Areas (LGAs) commence their Bush Fire Danger Periods, with Clarence Valley, Glen Innes Severn, Inverell and Tenterfield now requiring a fire permit.

Residents and landholders must ensure they understand the rules around the use of fire. In addition to obtaining the required fire permit, you must also notify your local fire authority and your neighbours of your intention to burn at least 24 hours in advance.

It’s important that you and your family understand the bush fire risk in your area. Take the time to have a conversation, create a Bush Fire Survival Plan and know what you'll do if threatened by fire.

Bush Fire Danger Period Starts Tomorrow

The Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) commences tomorrow, 1st August 2026 for the Tenterfield, Inverell and Glen Innes Severn LGAs.

✅ Prepare your property now
✅ A Fire Permit is required during the BFDP
✅ Notify your neighbours and the Fire Control Centre at least 24 hours before lighting up
