Patients at Maitland and John Hunter hospitals will have access to nine additional treatment spaces as the NSW Government expands emergency department short stay units across the state.

Maitland Hospital will receive four new spaces, taking its Emergency Department Short Stay Unit (EDSSU) to 12 treatment spaces.

John Hunter Hospital will gain five, bringing its unit to 13.

✈️ RAAF NO. 2 SQUADRON – FREEDOM OF ENTRY TO MAITLAND

On Saturday 12 September, Maitland will witness a rare and historic military tradition as around 65 personnel from RAAF No. 2 Squadron exercise their Freedom of Entry to the City of Maitland.

The ceremony begins at 10am at The Levee Shared Zone, with the Squadron parading along High Street towards Maitland Town Hall.

A highlight will be the traditional challenge ceremony near the corner of High and Hunter Streets, before the Squadron is formally welcomed to continue.

Freedom of Entry is a centuries-old tradition symbolising the trust, friendship and mutual respect between a city and a military unit. Maitland first granted this honour to No. 2 Squadron in 2016, recognising its proud service and strong connection with our region.
