We’re looking for recommendations for a cultural dance group or cultural organisation that may be interested in working with Toomelah Public School on a regular basis.

We’re hoping to find someone who can provide a consistent program throughout the term/year, where our students can build their skills, learn Aboriginal dance and culture, and develop an ongoing connection with the program. 🌿🪃💃🏽

DHINAWAN DANCE PROGRAM – EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST NOW OPEN

Birrelee MACS is excited to invite young people aged 10–13 years to take part in our FREE 16-week Dhinawan Dance Program.

The program provides opportunities for young people to explore cultural dance, Gamilaraay language, storytelling, physical activity, and cultural and community connection.

Program Details:
Starting: Friday 4 September 2026
Fridays: 4:00pm–6:00pm
Where: Coledale Community Centre
Ages: 10–13 years
Cost: Free

Expressions of Interest close at 5:00pm Friday 14 August 2026.

Join us this Saturday, 8th August, as Tamworth District Minor League proudly joins NSW Rugby League in celebrating Indigenous Round for the very first time.

This is a special opportunity for our community to come together to recognise, celebrate and honour the rich cultures, histories and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through the game we all love.

🔥 8:20am – 8:30am – Smoking Ceremony
🎤 8:30am - 8:35am - Welcome to Country
💃 8:35am – 8:45am – Traditional Dance Performance (everyone is warmly invited to attend)

We encourage everyone to wear your Indigenous jerseys, shirts or colours and join us in celebrating this historic milestone for TDML.

Today we celebrate 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐭 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲, led by SNAICC-National Voice for our Children.

This year’s theme, 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡, honours the power of truth-telling, the sharing of knowledge across generations and the importance of telling our stories.

At Birrelee, we are proud to be an Aboriginal Community Controlled Early Childhood Organisation and this theme reflects what has guided our work for almost 50 years. We provide education and care that is led by community, grounded in culture and centred on strong identity and belonging for every child.

Living Our Truth means supporting our children to grow up knowing who they are and where they come from, feeling proud and secure in their identity and being reminded every day that their voices matter. It means ensuring their stories are valued and protected and that Elders, families and community are honoured as the knowledge holders who guide and strengthen the next generation.

Today is also a reminder for all services, organisations and communities that celebrating our children must be led in ways that reflect local culture, local priorities and local voices.

On this Children’s Day, we stand with SNAICC in recognising the strength, pride and potential of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, and we recommit to ensuring every child grows up safe, strong, connected to culture and supported to thrive.

This little legend rolled in with her BFF (Mum), shopped the house down, carefully chose every single bloom for her very own bouquet, and we custom-made it exactly how she imagined. 🌸✨
