Subiaco Rover Unit

Here's how we started the new program cycle:

A: Arranging for the semester 📒 We held this semester's planning night at Subiaco Grill'd, where for the month of July, we have had a Local Matters jar as a unit fundraiser. We got creative with the activities for the upcoming semester!

B: Birthday Party 🥳 We threw a wildlife themed birthday party to celebrate Billy (our snake mascot) turning 5! Activities included Pin the Tail on the Kangaroo, Jigsaw Puzzles, Pass the Parcel, and Charades. The night ended with cake and candles.

C: Cake Decorating 🍰 We got creative and tested our skills at cake decorating. Some cakes we realistic and others challenged our imaginations! More to come on this...

Our program for the next semester looks wild!
We've created the program with an A-Z (Alphabet) theme, and our Monday nights look like a lot of fun!

On top of our regular Monday night program, we will be leading, assisting and participating in group, inter-unit and branch activities, so stay tuned for more fun!

🫶 May and June 2024 🫶
Over these months we got up to lots of community and creative challenges.

🕵️‍♀️ Spy night with Mundaring: post coming soon!
🗑 We cleaned up the streets and parks near our hall, reducing litter in the community environment.
🗣 We debated topics amongst the unit, including what flavour of soup is the best, and what sport is our favourite.
🤕 We assisted the scout group in a first aid night, by acting as victims for the scouts to practice first aid on.
👩‍🎨 We used sculpture making as a creative outlet, using a range of materials and our imaginations as a break from exams and work life.
🌌 We had a stargazing night, which despite poor weather, allowed us to learn about the meaning of the constellations in different cultures, through documentaries on the topic.
🌭 We had a sausage sizzle fundraiser at Bunnings, where many unit members, along with the Venturers, served sausages to the public to raise money for upcoming adventures, such as the Subi Snow Trip and World Moot.

🐥 April 2024 🐥
Here's what we got up to this month!

🚌 Smartrider Scavenger Hunt 🚌
For this activity we explored the city in teams to learn more about Perth and the sustainable public transport system. We definitely got our 10,000 steps in!!

🧼 Soap Making 🧼
This week we donned the safety glasses and tried soap making! Starting the night with drain cleaner and oil was scary, but we ended up with strawberry-scented pink soaps by applying our scientific knowledge and following the method.

🥪 Sandwich Making Competition 🥪
We competed in challenges with Waylen Bay Rovers , instructing the creation of PB&Js, making toast art and competing to make the best sandwiches with mystery challenge ingredients.

🏖 March 2024 🏖
This month we focussed on Creative and Community challenges.

🏝 Sandcastle Building 🏝
We started this month by going to City Beach and creating a sandcastle city as a Unit. Our city, "Subioca", had many buildings including ocean-view real estate, an underground train station and a mine.

🗿 Sculptures by the Sea 🗿
For this activity we met up and visited the Sculptures by the Sea art exhibition. We were joined by Rovers from Germany, which was a great experience for learning about Scouting in a different country.

🔍 Scavenger Hunt 🔍
The other week we did a scavenger hunt around Subiaco with our Venturer Unit! We had a great time getting to know them and talking about Rovering!

🔐 Sleuthing (Escape Room) 🔐
Recently we developed our skills by challenging ourselves to an escape room. We were able to escape the submarine themed room.

⛱ Sandmoot 2024 ⛱
 
This year, Sandmoot was hosted in Esperance (Kepa Kurl), so we made the roadtrip down 🚗, stopping at Wave Rock (Katter Kich) and other sights along the way.
 
We had the opportunity to go on the Cape Le Grand Expedition, where we hiked Frenchman’s Peak (Mandooboornup) 🗻, snorkelled at Lucky Bay 🐠, and camped at Dunns Eco Park ♻️.
 
Back at base camp, we celebrated with the Hottest 100, Jess participated in Ironguts (which Kelly ran with Parker), we enjoyed our cheeseboards at quiz night 🧀, helped sew joey pouches as community service 🦘, gave Isaac a haircut 💇🏼‍♂️, partied in the shed, and participated in other activities across the challenge areas 🧗‍♀️.
 
To progress our OAS, we went on a surfing lesson at Twilight Beach 🏄‍♀️.
 
This was a great long weekend for all of us, so a big thanks goes to for running this event!

This month we ran some great activities to complete our year.

❓ Cryptic Dinner ❓
Emily hosted the Rovers for a dinner party, where we solved riddles to come up with a creative dinner menu.

🗺 Geocaching 🗺
We got outdoors to find geocaches around the parks of Subiaco.

🎄 Christmas Lights Trail 🎄
We went into the city and experienced the magic of the Christmas Lights Trail, a City of Perth community event.
