✨ **Inclusion in action!** ✨

Last night, we were honoured to attend a special event at SAM, where we listened to Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of Australia, speak about the importance of connection, kindness and building strong communities. 💛

A highlight of the evening was Amy and Geoffrey having the opportunity to personally meet and chat with the Governor-General! 🌟

At Shepparton Access, we believe inclusion is more than words — it’s about creating real opportunities for people to participate, connect and be valued members of their community. By attending events like this together, we’re putting inclusion into practice and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to be part of meaningful experiences. ❤️

🔧🔧 Building Independence

This group wanted to take their practical learning beyond the usual activities and focus on problem-solving and understanding how things work.

They’ve been identifying things around Access that need fixing — from missing screws and busted trolley tyres to dripping taps — then working out what tools they need and how to fix them together.

Their latest project? Pulling apart a toaster to discover what’s inside and how it actually makes toast! 🔍🍞🔍🍞

🏀 Basketball is a highlight for our participants!

It’s fantastic to see everyone getting active, building their skills and having fun together. Participants are becoming more confident with dribbling and shooting, while also improving their hand-eye coordination, fitness and teamwork.

It’s also a great opportunity to build friendships, connect with others and enjoy being part of a team. Lots of skills, plenty of laughs and a whole lot of fun! 🏀😊

✨ A highlight of our week! ✨

We feel so lucky to be able to share the skills and creativity of some truly amazing local artists with our participants.

Every second Wednesday, the wonderful Kensington Gardens craft group welcomes us with open arms. Yvonne, Wendy, Adrienne and Lorraine generously share their time, knowledge and talents with our participants, helping them explore new skills and create some fantastic projects.

From stress balls and card holders to bowl cozies, crochet bags and so much more — there has been plenty of creativity happening! 🧶🎨

We are so grateful for community partnerships like this that create opportunities for our participants to learn, connect and have fun.

Thank you to the amazing ladies at Kensington Gardens for making us feel so welcome each visit! ❤️👏

🎉 1,000 JARS! 🫙🎉

What an incredible achievement by our participants, who have now made 1,000 jars of delicious preserves for the community! 👏

We are so proud of the effort, learning and teamwork that has gone into every jar, with the support of our valued community partner, Shepparton Foodshare.

We love seeing our partnerships create meaningful opportunities for our participants to contribute to the community. ❤️

Well done everyone — what an achievement! 🙌

MILESTONE ALERT: 1,000 JARS!

That’s right — 1,000 jars of jams and spreads made and donated by participants in the Shepparton Access cooking program for our food crates!

Every Monday and Tuesday, the program operates from the Shepparton Foodshare kitchen, providing participants with valuable hands-on work experience while giving surplus produce a second life.

The result? A range of delicious homemade jams and spreads that make their way into food crates received by local people.

However you spread it – this is incredible impact!

🚶‍♀️💃🏽🏊‍♂️ Every Move Counts! 💪

Being active every day is important for everyone, and our participants and staff are getting behind the "Million Moves Challenge!" 🙌

At Shepparton Access, no matter what program our participants are doing, we build movement and exercise into every single day. From walking to community programs and getting out in the garden, to dancing, swimming, stretching and yoga — there are lots of ways to keep moving.

It doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. Sometimes a little encouragement is all that’s needed! ❤️

💛 R U OK? Day at Shepparton Access 💛

At Shepparton Access, we value connection and taking the time to check in with those around us.

Today was another opportunity to pause, check in and ask, “Are you OK?” — not just today, but every day. 💛

And that check-in extends to the families and carers who support our participants every day. We know the important role you play, and we want you to know that your wellbeing matters too. Sometimes a simple “Are you OK?” can open the door to a conversation and remind someone they don’t have to manage everything alone.

The 2026 R U OK? message is: Ask R U OK? Any Day, Because life happens every day, and a conversation could change a life. 💛
