On demand transport is already working in Lake Macquarie — why not here?

Our area needs better public transport options now more than ever — please repost or volunteer some time to help make it happen.

We have started by writing a petition but need a group of enthusiastic souls to help make it happen.

On-demand transport is already working in Lake Macquarie, helping people get where they need to go without long waits, missed connections, or being left stranded — and it typically costs around $3 a trip, making it an affordable option for many.

So why are Rathmines, Wangi, Fishing Point and surrounding areas missing out?

Right now, many residents are dealing with:
• Infrequent or unreliable bus services
• Limited connections to key hubs
• Increased reliance on cars
• Isolation for those without transport

We’re looking for a small group of locals to help push this forward.

You don’t need special skills — just a bit of time and a willingness to help improve our community.

This initiative is supported by the Sustainable Rathmines group, but it starts with individuals willing to step up.

Save the date: Rathmines Repair Cafe is on again this year! Saturday November 15th, 10.00am to 2.00pm.
Great community event and way to get your favorite things repaired at no cost and meet other locals.

SO HOW DOES A REPAIR CAFE WORK?

It's simple... you bring in your broken things and one of our volunteer repairers does their best to help.
There is no booking system. You just arrive with your 'thing', and when the expert you need is free, you're up! Your repairer can talk you through the problem, so that next time maybe you can fix it yourself. Or you can simply chew the fat and get to know someone new.

“Weed Be So Grateful for Your Help!” 🌿

Join the Rathmines Area Sustainable Neighbourhood Group on Sunday 31 August from 9am for a morning of giving back to nature at Styles Point in the Park. We’ll be weeding regeneration sites and planting a commemoration tree for Annual Tree Day — a meaningful way to support your local environment.

Even an hour of your time helps!

☀️ Enjoy the fresh air, a friendly chat, and (hopefully) some sunshine!
