A blustery day saw the under 12 pitbulls blue team and under 12 magpies team clash in a Mackay comp fixture. Captain Cydnee Green for the pitbulls won the bat toss and elected to field.

The pitbull’s opening bowlers Hector (1/9) and Fred (1/14) made early inroads into the magpies batting lineup taking a wicket each. Our bowlers worked in partnerships, creating pressure by keeping scoring opportunities low. Our second bowling pair of Phoenix (2/10) and Noah (1/11) kept magpies on the backfoot with an accurate attack and both took wickets. Malia (0/7) and Cydnee (1/8) took the ball and kept the batters guessing which paved the way for Lukas (0/9) and Georgia (0/7) to finish out the innings. Georgia was a rock behind the stumps as wicketkeeper for the first half of the innings. Hector took the gloves after the drinks break, keeping up to the stumps and snared a stumping. The magpies innings closed at 6/83.

Our Pitbulls got off to a shaky start and we found ourselves struggling at 3/2 after Noah Malia and Lucas all fell for ducks. When Fred (2) and Cydnee (1) came and went, we were 5/32 and looking vulnerable. Our remaining batters Phoenix (3) Georgia (6*) and Hector (38*) combined to get our team over the line. Georgia and Hector struggled through some tight bowling to stretch our last wicket partnership and claim a tense, tight victory.

Next week we travel to Mackay to take on Pioneer Valley. Training as usual on Wednesday afternoon. Please check socials for wet weather cancellations.

🏏 Proserpine Pitbulls U13s – Match Report

A little rain wasn't going to dampen the spirits of the Proserpine Pitbulls U13s, who put in a fantastic team effort in a closely contested match.

Batting first, brothers Harry and Thomas Gibbs were tasked with laying the foundation for the innings. Both showed plenty of patience against some tidy opening bowling, contributing 14 and 19 respectively. Henry Holscher continued the hard work with a determined 12 before Ryan Clark decided it was time to give the opposition fielders a workout! Ryan took the attack to the bowlers, smashing six boundaries on his way to an impressive unbeaten 35 from just 29 balls. The Pitbulls finished their 25 overs at 8/115.

With runs on the board, the Pitbulls took to the field determined to defend their total. Thomas Gibbs led the charge with an excellent 3/15, while Henry Holscher was almost impossible to score off, claiming 2/6 from three overs, including a maiden. Zahra Cale chipped in with 1/14, while Harry Gibbs kept things tight, conceding just seven runs from his two overs.

The bowlers were well supported in the field, with Harry apparently deciding catching was his responsibility for the afternoon, taking three catches! Jobe Smith also held onto a catch, while John Hart showed some safe hands behind the stumps with a great wicketkeeper's catch.

Despite some excellent bowling and fielding, the opposition managed to reach 8/134, securing a 19-run victory.

While the result didn't go the Pitbulls' way, it was a fantastic all-round team effort. Every player contributed throughout the day, whether with bat, ball, in the field or by encouraging their teammates. There was plenty of determination, teamwork and enthusiasm on display, even with the rain about!

Lots of positives to take into next week. Well done, Pitbulls! 🐾🏏

The south Mackay sharks swam into Proserpine cricket grounds for Under 11 Blue team's second game of the year. Sent into bat, Captain Harry asked Toby and Hudson to lay the foundation of the innings; which they happily obliged, seeing off some pretty ferocious bowling upfront but managing to keep the scoreboard ticking over. With the innings setup, the middle order batsmen George and Harry looked to up the run rate and were vicious against any wayward bowling. Last batsmen in, and with a point to prove after missing last week's game, Jonty stole inspiration from his Captain's innings of last week and proceeded to make the sharks chase leather all over the ground, bludgeoning a mammoth 37 runs off his allotted balls to set sharks a very formidable total of 117.

In the field; some great bowling went unrewarded early before George finally got the ball to crash into the middle of middle stump. Not to be outdone, Jonty followed George's lead by bending the wickets twice in his next over. 2 run outs and a couple of wickets to Toby saw the pitbulls get to drinks with the game in the balance. The second half of the fielding innings started with Hudson, fresh off his stint as wicket keeper, clipping the off stump with the first ball of his spell followed by a double wicket over to Toby to have the game right in the balance. An amazing wicket-keeper catch as the batter gloved a ball down leg side by Jonty gave the pitbulls further hope of caging the sharks but unfortunately we're unable to stem the flow of runs. Despite George and Toby chiming in with yet more wickets and Harry nabbing a great outfield catch the sharks reached the target in the penultimate over. Player of the match, Toby, had the ball for the final over of the innings and set aside his disappointment of the loss to nab another wicket to complete his maiden 5-wicket haul.

Jonty 37 runs
Harry 21 runs

Hudson 3/31
George 2/23

MoM Toby 7 runs, 5/24

A huge compliment from the sharks coaches on the pitbull's fantastic competitive, but also incredibly positive, attitude. They remarked that it was amazing to see the kids applauding good batting, bowling and fielding regardless of the team.
