We’re delighted to invite you to our Friends of Osprey community update dinner on Wednesday 25 November, with special guest Ian Perks of the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation in the UK.

Ian is visiting South Australia to work alongside Friends of Osprey this summer and this dinner is our chance to welcome him to Adelaide. He’ll share insights from decades of Osprey recovery in the UK and translocations of raptors to establish new populations in Europe. The committee will also bring you up to date on how the species is recovering here, and what we’re seeing in the current breeding season.

We’re hosting the evening with our friends at Birds SA, who have been a valued partner on a number of our projects.

When: Wednesday 25 November, 6.30 pm for 7.00 pm
Where: Springbank Room, Hotel Panorama, 625 Goodwood Road, Panorama
Tickets: $65 per person, including a two-course dinner. Drinks are available at the bar.

Seats are limited to 75, and bookings close Friday 20 November.

Book your seat: https://www.trybooking.com/DRDJA

Please bring a friend. It’s a great way to introduce people to the work we’re doing to bring Ospreys back to South Australia.

We look forward to seeing you there.

2026.10.26 - Well, that wasn’t the ending we were hoping for.
A Pacific Gull arrived early this morning and took both Osprey eggs. No invitation, no manners, and absolutely no respect for those of us emotionally invested in this nest.
After so many days unattended, the eggs were no longer expected to hatch, but Mum & Dad still came back, sometimes sitting on them, and it was hard not to feel a little hopeful alongside them.
We knew there wouldn’t be chicks, but seeing the eggs go still hurts. We can now really all suffer the 'empty nest syndrome'.

2026.10.22 - Thistle Island - 13 Days old - We’ve decided our Thistle Island osprey chick will be Nick or Nicky, depending on what we discover when we band and fit a tracker just before fledging - approval pending.
The name is a feathered thank-you to Nick, whose knowledge and help made getting a camera onto Thistle Island possible. Nick, we really appreciate everything you’ve done—and naming a fish-eating youngster after you seemed more memorable than a thank-you card!
We originally had two chicks, but only one was visible when we checked today. With no round-the-clock coverage, we don’t know what happened to the other chick.
For now, we’re cheering on little Nick/Nicky: may your wings grow strong and your fish deliveries remain frequent!

2026.10.14 - Tumby Island - I know everyone has to eat but this pesky Raven didn’t have to bring the egg back and eat in front of everyone.

2026.10.13 - Thistle Island - it’s hard to get a good look at these two but at least we know they are going OK

2026.10.12 - Thistle Island - another little bobble head appeared early this morning so we now have two. Excellent news.

2026.10.11 - Thistle Island - I guess one is better than none. When I look on the big screen I think there is only 1 chick/egg on the nest at Thistle Island. Taps spent most of the day fussing around Anne on the nest. Even though it was windy it must still have been warm as Anne spent some time up off the chick.

2026.10.10 - Tumby Island - Can anyone identify what bird this egg belongs to. The nest can’t be too far from the platform as the Raven was only gone for 28 seconds before returning with the egg.

2026.10.09 - Thistle Island - it was a very wet & windy day to come into the world but it’s great to see he/she waiting to be fed.

2026.10.09 - Thistle Island. 👏👏👏Ann is ravenous this morning but does manage to get a few mouthfuls into our first chick for the season. Hope to get better vision when the sun comes up.
