Did you know you could get owls to nest in your own backyard?

Port Lincoln and the surrounding area is home to several types of owls and nocturnal bird such as Barn owls, Boobooks and nightjars.

Encourage them to breed by putting up one of our hand built EPFT Owl nest boxes in the eave of your house or the limb of a tree.

The photo below is a Boobook owl spotted locally in the Brinkworth reserve

With all the country shows coming up, and spring among us, it’s a great time to put up one of our nifty little micro bat boxes. Simple to put together, you can provide a great home for an animal that is very important in the ecosystem around us. We will be at the Yallunda Flat Show this weekend, see you then.

Stay wild 🌳🌱🦇

Big thanks to Yarnbala, they do some awesome work and look forward to working with them more in the future.

Today a new Owl has been brought into us, this lovely Boobook owl has a slight injury to its left wing. Should heal soon, a feed of mice, some warmth and a bit of TLC. He should be happy and healthy soon enough. Stay wild 🦉🦉🌱

Why go and look for birds when they can just come to you, turn your backyard into a ’Bird Haven’.

With these simple steps:

Planting native bird attracting plants

Put out a bird waterer

Put up a bird box

You can attract so many species, no matter the size of your yard, from a rural property to an urban unit. Small steps can help preserve our native species.

Stay Wild 🕊️🦜🌱

This last week has been one of fun and excitement, when we got the call that several nests of baby birds had been discovered and had to be moved.

I jumped on the opportunity as it would be a great chance to raise some great little native birds. Hoping they would be some magnificent birds of prey or owls, I waited the day out to find out what they would be. The high pitch squawk came from three little boxes, the wide hungry mouths of 7 hungry crows greeted me. A little disappointed but happy for a new adventure, I have been caring for these tackers.

They love their food but love sleeping far more in there warm heater box.

Have you seen a bat on the Eyre Peninsula?
Did you know there is almost TEN species of bats on the EP?

But these bats aren’t blood suckers, these bats love insects, pollen, fruit and nectar. It’s important that we look after our bats as they a huge part in our ecosystem, from cross pollinating plants and fruits to controlling the flying insects.

So how can you play your part?

If you have big trees on your property or a high pitch roof, try making or putting up one of our ‘Bat Roosting Boxes’ to provide a spot for bats to sleep throughout the day.
