Some food for thought on inclusive language 🌟

The English language is filled with metaphors and sayings - and they are often used without considering their origin or impact.

But they can unintentionally reinforce ableist attitudes and biases.

We love seeing community members putting inclusive ideas into practice!
This is Laura, the owner of Aqua Kre-Artz! Through the Open Doors Project, we worked with Laura to support her in fostering a more inclusive and accessible business.

She recently hosted an event featuring a range of inclusive initiatives to ensure everyone felt welcome and included.

Some of the things she did to make the event more inclusive were:
- Offer flexible seating options: If possible, provide a diverse range of adjustable, non-fixed furniture and seating options.

- Support different sensory needs: Consider having sensory tools and a quiet room for people to use.

- Make sure the space is easy to navigate: Use welcome posters with signage and clear directions. Make sure there is space for wheelchair users to move easily.

- Provide accessibility information in advance: Include transport, access details, and program. Remember, inclusion starts before the event!
