Greenacres is proud to be part of a new partnership set to strengthen disability services and research across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven. The Illawarra Disability Alliance and the UOW: University of Wollongong, Australia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, bringing UOW's research and education expertise together with IDA's network of disability service providers, including Greenacres.

Karen Burdett, CEO of Greenacres Disability Services, signed on behalf of the IDA and said, "We are confident this agreement will create real world opportunities for teams from the region's most capable providers to work in partnership with faculties across the University to support quality outcomes for people with disability across our region."

The partnership will focus on workforce development, student placements, applied research, and shared use of facilities, helping build stronger pathways and better outcomes for people with disability across the region.

A Grant That Makes a Real Difference!

We'd like to extend a huge thank you to the Veolia Mulwaree Trust for their incredibly generous contribution toward our new ceiling hoist. With their support covering 50% of the cost, participant like Sarah here can now go about their daily personal care with greater comfort, safety, and independence, and our support staff can assist with confidence. We are so grateful for this partnership and the real difference it makes to people's lives!

Blooming with Appreciation Visits NSW Police 👮💐💙

Our Blooming with Appreciation volunteers visited NSW Police this week to drop off a beautiful bouquet, made from donated flowers given a second life. It is a small gesture with a big impact, a thank you for all that our local police do for the community.

Matty M from our Community Life and Leisure centres has a passion for giving back and a clear goal: to make a genuine contribution to his community. His own car wash program is one of the ways he is living that out.

Matty has always cared about looking after the places and people around him, regularly taking part in local beach cleanups. More recently, with support from our team, he has turned his attention to washing vehicles, travelling across the Shellharbour CLL cluster to clean buses and fleet cars for other Greenacres centres. He started off doing an outstanding job on two HiAce buses, and the response from centres has been fantastic.

For Matty, this is about more than a clean car. It is about having the opportunity, support, and choice to participate in his community on his own terms, and to be seen as someone who contributes, not just someone who receives support. That is a right everyone deserves, and Matty is embracing it fully. Along the way, he has built new skills and confidence, and found real joy in the work.

Congratulations, Matty. We are so proud of you 🙌

Greenacres is looking for participants interested in joining our Parks and Gardens Maintenance crew! We run crews on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and provide full training through our WEA Parks and Garden Maintenance course to get you job ready.

This is a fantastic opportunity to build real, hands on work experience in a supportive environment with a pathway towards open employment.

To be eligible for this opportunity you must be on the NDIS and either receive, or be eligible to receive, the DSP.
