Officiating in Radio Sailing ⛵️

Radio sailing is a rapidly growing discipline of sailing, offering participants a short, high-octane version of the sport with low barriers to entry, great social opportunities, and intense competition.

Due to recent rapid growth, the Australian Radio Yachting Association (ARYA) is keen to expand the number of officials in the discipline, particularly judges and umpires.

Radio sailing is growing quickly in popularity, with big fleets of boats racing regularly at clubs around the country. What does that mean for officials?

October will be a busy month for youth sailing ⛵ with NOT ONE BUT TWO Australian Sailing Zhik Youth Sail events across NSW & ACT!! 🏆

📍 Zhik Youth Sail NSW will once again head back to Toronto Amateur Sailing Club on Lake Macquarie, bringing together young sailors, coaches and race officials from across the east coast of Australia. Last year’s event saw over 300 youth sailors participate in the Coaching Clinic, Green Fleet and NSW Youth Championship. We can’t wait to see the fleets back on the water from Wednesday 30 September to Monday 5 October.

📍 And for the first time ever, Zhik Youth Sail is setting sail in the nation’s capital! Zhik Youth Sail ACT will be co-hosted by Canberra Yacht Club and YMCA of Canberra Sailing Club from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 October. This new event brings more opportunities for regional youth sailors to get involved, learn and connect with other participants.

Whether you’re a Green Fleet sailor starting your competitive journey in sailing, or an experienced racer at the top of your game, Zhik Youth Sail events are all about:
⛵ Developing your racing experience
⛵ Learning from coaches
⛵ Building confidence on the water
⛵ And making lifelong friends!

Mark your calendars, share with your mates, book your travel, and stand by for entries to open in July!

Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race Technical Inspections 📑

Organising Authorities are increasingly recognising the advantages of establishing a Technical Committee (TC). The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) has demonstrated leadership in this regard by appointing a TC for their offshore races.

This report is based on the outcomes of the pre-race inspections conducted prior to the 2025 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.
