The Hunter’s playground for new artists. Celebrating 50 years of transformative art experiences in 2026.

After-school drama | Bold original theatre | Award-winning programs for artists with disability | Professional development for early-career artists. Tantrum is the leading youth arts company in the Hunter region (NSW, Australia) and a not-for-profit co-operative. Utilising performance, storytelling and so much more, we offer meaningful creative workshops, projects and opportunities for young people aged 5 to 26 that build confidence, connections and compassion. We believe artistic expression is a powerful tool for young people to make sense of themselves, their community and the world around them, leading to change. We’re a hub for local emerging artists who want to carve out their own sustainable arts practice within our region, through skills development, networking and making bold new performance. We’re an employer of local artists and art workers who are passionate about taking a creative approach towards making a social impact, supporting young people to become makers and doers in their own way.

Let's get creative at your Vacation Care this January!

We offer a range of playful Vacation Care/OOSH programs in drama and creative play: affordable, high quality incursions that get the young people stuck in to making characters, props and a performance for each other.

Our unique workshops are tailored to the curiosity and ideas of the young people and are suitable for everyone: from the budding actor to the quietly creative. No experience necessary!

We are now taking bookings for the January 2027 School Holiday period. Check out our menu below, or call us to discuss a different idea! Our creativity knows no bounds!

Thank you for sharing with us. 💛🩷

We have spent the day celebrating 2 Til 5/Tantrum’s legacy, premiering the beautiful mini-documentary that showcases our 50 years of impact.

We have also shared the joy that is the Playful Art Project, brought to you by the creative young people who are our present.

And now we're looking to the future. And we need your help.

In our 50th birthday year, we are calling on you, our community, to help us raise enough money so we can continue providing transformative arts experiences for young people:

To make sure 50 is not the final act for Tantrum.

Please donate today. You can secure our future.

With all our love,
Team Tantrum x

💕 The Playful Art Challenge: Part Three 💕

For , Tantrum's young people were set an artistic challenge: "make you life more playful."

Today we will be sharing some of the different ways our young people approached this task - always with characteristic Tantrum joy and creativity.

Aus Art day is a nationwide day of giving for the arts. If you are passionate, as we are, about the right of all young people to play, please consider a donation to Tantrum's Arts Acces Fund.

Celebrate Tantrum's legacy, and help secure our future. Don't let 50 be the last act.

Our Hamilton 13-17s watching (and spotting themselves in) our mini-doco. 😍

Many of these young people have been with Tantrum for a big portion of their lives now. In fact, it’s probably more correct to say that they ARE Tantrum. ☺️

Please donate so we can continue to provide a space where these young people find belonging, confidence, connection, and creativity.

Head to the link in the comments to watch the documentary, and to tantrum. org. au / donate to donate. 💕

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts and investment advisory body.
