Tantrum Youth Arts

Tantrum Youth Arts The Hunter’s playground for new artists. Celebrating 50 years of transformative art experiences in 2026.

After-school drama | Bold original theatre | Award-winning programs for artists with disability | Professional development for early-career artists. Tantrum is the leading youth arts company in the Hunter region (NSW, Australia) and a not-for-profit co-operative. Utilising performance, storytelling and so much more, we offer meaningful creative workshops, projects and opportunities for young peopl

e aged 5 to 26 that build confidence, connections and compassion. We believe artistic expression is a powerful tool for young people to make sense of themselves, their community and the world around them, leading to change. We’re a hub for local emerging artists who want to carve out their own sustainable arts practice within our region, through skills development, networking and making bold new performance. We’re an employer of local artists and art workers who are passionate about taking a creative approach towards making a social impact, supporting young people to become makers and doers in their own way.

Announcing Tantrum's July Holiday Drama Camp: Lost in Neverland (ages 5-10). 🧚🏴‍☠️

Never grow up! Sail away with Peter, fly with the fairies, and outsmart the pirates.

This time we're bringing the holiday adventure to Rathmines and Charlestown.

We’re taking the story of Peter Pan and we’re making it our own: creating characters and dreaming-up grand adventures as we spend the day exploring Neverland. Participants will build a world together through drama and performance, creating something special to share with family and friends at the end of the day.

Parents & Caregivers, please join us for a short presentation at 3pm.

A message from Tantrum's Executive Director Paul Adams:

Don’t let 50 be the final year!

At the end of May we had a wonderful Annual General Meeting (AGM) and a fitting way to celebrate 50 years of Tantrum. It was refreshing to hear from our Noisemakers Youth Advisory Panel, sharing not only their highlights from 2025 but also their passion for the organisation and its future.

We were delighted to welcome families joining as members, and to see board members, staff, young people and supporters all together celebrating another incredible year.

As we look ahead, we're also mindful of the financial pressures facing the arts and charity sectors, and particularly the need to advocate loudly for more regional support for youth arts charities doing vital work.

The need for accessible, high-quality arts opportunities for young people has never been greater, and neither has the need for support. As one of our particpants said, Tantrum "feels like home".

If you believe in the value of the arts, to not only grow creativity, and build a thriving sector, but to also help children and young people build confidence and connection please consider making an end of financial year tax deductable donation.

Every contribution helps Tantrum continue creating opportunities for young people to access the arts and learn to thrive.

You can donate here: https://support-tantrum.raiselysite.com/
