The Region Climbing wall is now back in business and is available for hire to Groups, Districts and other Regions.
Budgewoi Scout Group ran a promotion day yesterday that included the climbing wall. Every child who attended the day climbed the wall. This included 5yr olds to 15yr olds.
The Group will potentially get 12 + new members from the day.
A fantastic effort by Nic and her team for organising a successful day. Leaders from the H&C Region Activities Team ran the wall for her.
If any Groups are interested in hiring the climbing wall, please contact H&C Region Office or Greg Denning RCA.

Are your Canoes up to standard?
As summer approaches it is time to get out on the water. Now it the best time to ensure all your boats are compliant with the Scouts NSW requirements. The details for this can be found in the Boating SOP.

Don’t forget to check out the calendar on when events are running to help you get qualified and maintain current competency on your water skills. As always, drop us a PM if you have any questions.

Recently the team did what we do best! Running an Adventure weekend for Scouts and Venturers. On offer was 4 x half day activities - Abseiling, Mountain Biking, Archery and Bush Walking. The goal being to tick off as much OAS 1-4 levels as possible. We also were able to sign off some Trained Participant skills for local leaders who helped out and supported the sessions. Great location too at Poms Camp - Jilliby.

What is ANS?

ANS (Activity Notification system) is one of the more important Scouts NSW safety mechanisms to ensure those organising activities for our Scouts have adequately prepared and are suitable qualified to run the activity. If the activity is deemed to be of a certain risk-level it will go to the Regional Commissioner Activities (Greg Denning in H&C) to review and approve.

For those who have been around for a while, think of the old E3 form. You will need to attach the activity plan and risk assessment as a minimum.

Link to ANS Here -
https://nswscouts.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/9/group/20/create/77
(Please note you will need to log in with you scout email address and Multi-factor authentication)

An ANS submission is required for:
• All Adventurous Activities*
• All Commercial Activities*
• Camping.

An ANS submission isn’t required for the following items, but each Group must maintain a risk assessment for any activity it conducts in its hall or environs and must have obtained parental consent generally for those activities:
• Activities done in the hall, such as bushcraft and pioneering, where the participants' feet are less than 2m above the ground
• Activities in the hall and the environs of the hall up to 2km, which are not Adventurous Activities, and could include walks and games
• General leisure activities such as bowling or a Macca's dining in night.

Still not sure? If something is outside of these guidelines, use your judgment; if there is a need to consider a risk assessment and plan the activity, put it in ANS.

Any questions reach out to any member of the Team or your Group Leader.

Want to get involved?

Do you have a passion for outdoor activities and have some skills to bring to the team? Well then, we would love to hear from you!

We meet Monthly on the 1st Tuesday of the month, mostly at Mayfield but occasionally via MS Teams.

We are currently focusing on building the Boating team ready for this coming summer season but always want to hear from people who spend a good bit of their life in a tent/boat/harness.

To learn more, please comment below and we will be in contact.
