Weaving Immersion: Connection, Strength & Change 🧡💜

As part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (25 November – 10 December), Hunter Women’s Centre and the Reclaiming My Place team invite women with lived experience of violence, alongside the practitioners who support them, to come together for two free half-day weaving workshops.

Weaving is more than a creative practice. It offers an opportunity to slow down, connect with others, share space and reflect on strength, resilience and healing.

Gender-based violence can have lasting impacts on women’s sense of safety, identity and connection. Creating safe, supportive spaces where women can reconnect with themselves and others is one way we can contribute to a community that supports healing and stands against violence.

Together, we’ll create meaningful woven pieces that celebrate connection, strength and change. The finished works will be exhibited at Hunter Women’s Centre during the 16 Days of Activism.

Young Minds, Creative Expressions!

We were delighted to welcome senior students from Margaret Jurd College to Hunter Women’s Centre for a Term 4 Art Therapy Program!

Through creative expression, students are exploring important themes of identity, self-awareness, self-care, healthy boundaries and emotional wellbeing during the adolescent years.

Early intervention plays an important role in supporting young people as they navigate the challenges of adolescence, develop a stronger sense of self and build skills that support their emotional wellbeing and healthy relationships.

By providing a safe, supportive and creative environment, we aim to encourage meaningful conversations, connection and personal growth while empowering young people with tools they can carry into adulthood.

We look forward to continuing this creative journey with the students from Margaret Jurd College! 💜

OCTOBER IS MENTAL HEALTH MONTH

This year, WayAhead’s Mental Health Month theme is “A Little Connection Goes a Long Way.” 💫

At Hunter Women’s Centre, we know that connection can make a real difference to our mental health and wellbeing. Sometimes it’s a conversation over a cuppa, joining a group, getting creative, trying something new or simply having a safe space where you feel heard and supported.

Life can feel overwhelming, and as women, we often carry so much while putting everyone else first. Taking time for yourself and connecting with others is not selfish — it’s an important part of looking after your wellbeing.

At HWC, we’re proud to offer a welcoming, supportive space where women can connect, share experiences, build confidence and access support without judgement.

✨ This Mental Health Month, we encourage you to reach out, check in on a friend, join a community activity or take a moment to reconnect with yourself.

Remember, small moments of connection can make a big difference.

Hunter Women’s Centre is happy to support BreastScreen NSW in encouraging women in our community to prioritise their health and book a breast screen.

BreastScreen NSW’s Waratah clinic is offering free mammograms for women aged 40 and over, with appointments available throughout October.

A breast screen takes around 20 minutes, requires no doctor’s referral, and can help detect breast cancer early — before it can be seen or felt.
