The Afghan LEE Association in Melbourne had the privilege of hosting a special dinner bringing together Afghan community leaders, elders, and local Members of Parliament from across Melbourne.

The evening provided a valuable opportunity for members of our community to connect with their local MPs, strengthen relationships, and discuss the issues and opportunities that matter to the Afghan community.

I would like to sincerely acknowledge and thank the Afghan LEE team for their tremendous hard work, dedication, and ongoing support to the Afghan community in Melbourne. Your commitment to bringing our community together is truly appreciated.

I also extend our sincere gratitude to Honourable Julian Hill the Assistant Minister for joining us as our Guest of Honour, and to all the Victorian Government MPs who attended the event. Thank you for taking the time to be with our community and for your continued support and commitment to the Afghan community across Melbourne.

Together, through dialogue, collaboration, and mutual respect, we can continue building a stronger and more connected Afghan community in Victoria.

Regards
Nisar Ahmad the President of the Afghan LEE Association.

🇦🇺🇦🇫 Honouring the Fallen Lest We Forget

Today, as the Australian government commemorate Australia’s service in Afghanistan, we remember and honour all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the pursuit of peace, freedom and security.

We pay our deepest respects to the brave Australian Defence Force personnel who served in Afghanistan, standing firm in the face of danger and demonstrating extraordinary courage, dedication and commitment.

We also honour the Afghan interpreters (afghanlee) and local staff who stood shoulder to shoulder with Australian Defence Force personnel. They risked their lives to support the mission, build trust and help Australian soldiers carry out their duties. Many paid the ultimate price, leaving behind grieving families and loved ones. Their courage, loyalty and sacrifice must never be forgotten.

Their service represents a powerful bond between Australians and Afghans — a bond forged through shared hardship, trust, courage and sacrifice. We remember not only those who lost their lives, but also the veterans, interpreters, families and communities who continue to live with the lasting consequences of war.

War leaves deep scars on individuals, families and nations. May we continue to pray for peace, stability and harmony in Afghanistan and across the world, and hope for a future where no family has to endure the pain of losing a loved one to conflict.

To every Australian soldier, Afghan interpreter and local colleague who served this mission: your courage mattered, your sacrifice mattered, and your contribution will never be forgotten.

May we always honour their memory with dignity, gratitude and respect.

Lest We Forget. 🌺

The Afghan LEE Association had the honour of planning and organising the memorial prayer ceremony for two distinguished Afghan heroes: the late Shapoor Zadran, a legend of the Afghanistan National Cricket Team, and the late Abdul Ahad Momand, the first Afghan and the first Muslim astronaut.

The ceremony was held on 14 July 2026 in Melbourne, Australia, to pay tribute to their remarkable contributions and to honour their lasting legacy.

On behalf of the Afghan LEE Association, I sincerely thank everyone who took the time to attend the ceremony, offer their condolences, and pray for the departed souls and their families. Your presence, support, and heartfelt prayers were deeply appreciated and reflected the unity and respect of our community.

May Allah (SWT) grant them the highest place in Jannah and give their families strength, patience, and peace. Ameen.

I would also like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Federal and State Members of Parliament who sent their heartfelt condolences and stood in solidarity with the Afghan community in Australia during this time of loss. Your messages of sympathy, compassion, and support were deeply appreciated and provided great comfort to our community. Thank you for honouring the memory of our two national heroes and for standing with us in our time of grief.

May Allah grant them His mercy, forgive their shortcomings, and bless them with the highest place in Jannah. Ameen
