REST IN PEACE UNC ๐คโค๏ธ๐
Vale, Unc ๐ค
Due to Sorry Business and Cultural protocol the family has requested that we refer to Our Respected Aboriginal Elder as Unc and following the funeral, we will be able to acknowledge him by name.
Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong community is deeply saddened by the passing of respected Aboriginal Elder Unc, a proud Jerrinja man from Nowra and a much-loved community leader across the Macarthur region.
For more than 30 years, Unc devoted himself to bringing people together, supporting his community and sharing his knowledge of Aboriginal culture, history and language. Through his leadership, generosity and commitment to reconciliation, he made a lasting difference to countless lives.
Unc was also a passionate advocate for Catholic education, supporting schools across the Diocese, including John Therry Catholic College, Rosemeadow, St John's Catholic Primary School, Campbelltown and the development of St Francis Catholic College, Edmondson Park, where a school house continues to honour his legacy.
In 2019, Unc was presented with the Deacon Boniface Award for Elders for his outstanding service to the community. He was described as a โliving treasureโ โ a fitting recognition of a man whose impact will continue to be felt for generations.
At this time of Sorry Business, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Uncโs family, friends and the many communities who are mourning his passing. We hold them in our prayers and give thanks for the life, wisdom and service of a remarkable Elder.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen. โ
