A life saved using skills learnt at Scouts!

Harry was able to use life saving skills learnt at Scouts to perform CPR on his dad, Peter, when he suffered a cardiac arrest.

Your child can learn these and many more skills by joining us at: https://1st-narellan.group.scoutsnsw.com.au/

Today, we take a moment to honor and remember the brave men and women who fought for our country.

Each year, Scouts across Australia come together for ANZAC Day ceremonies, paying tribute to those who served. On this day, we reflect on their courage, resilience, and spirit of camaraderie, acknowledging the sacrifices made for the freedoms we enjoy.

Honoring the past, looking ahead.

At 1st Narellan Scouts, we believe some of the best learning happens outdoors.

Last year, one of our hikes took us into Wollemi National Park, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Area. The Scouts trekked through a disused railway tunnel (with glow worms!), explored flowering bushland, and camped near historic 1920s shale mining ruins, all surrounded by dramatic sandstone cliffs. Being immersed in one of the largest wilderness areas in NSW really helped put our place in the natural environment into perspective.

Along the way, Scouts put their skills into practice; navigation, teamwork, resilience, and a genuine appreciation of the outdoors. Their hard work was rewarded with a beautiful campsite and well‑earned rest after long days on the trail.
For us as Scout Leaders, experiences like this show exactly why Scouting matters. These adventures don’t just create great memories they help shape confident young people into future leaders, global citizens, and individuals willing to challenge themselves.

At 1st Narellan Scout Group, we believe Scouting is about helping young people build real connections — with each other, with their community, and with the natural spaces around them. We do this the Scout way: learning by doing. Getting outdoors, working in small teams, having a go, and learning through hands‑on experience.

This year, our Scouts have been focusing on a special patch of endangered Cumberland Plain Woodland at Parrot Farm Reserve right here in Narellan. So far, they’ve removed over 100kg of household rubbish from the reserve (with more still to come), making a visible difference to the area.

More recently, we teamed up with Camden Council to learn about local w**d management. This gave the Scouts a practical understanding of invasive w**ds ,what they look like, why they’re a problem, and why ongoing care of our bushland really matters. There was plenty of hard work involved, from pony‑tailing African Love Grass, pulling out Purple Top and Bidens, to helping with African Olive removal.

This work isn’t about ticking off badge requirements. It’s about meaningful learning , seeing the impact of their efforts at the end of the day, and understanding how their actions link to caring for the environment and the wider community, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Best of all, we plan to keep coming back to Parrot Farm Reserve, so our Scouts will be able to see the long‑term changes they’ve helped make.
