Language and stories don't just belong in books – they belong in our homes, on Country, and in everyday conversations with our children.
Every word shared, every story told, and every moment spent learning together helps keep our languages and cultures strong for future generations. Teaching language doesn't have to be perfect or happen in a classroom. It starts at home.
Whether it's reading a book, learning a new word, singing a song, or sharing a story about the places around us, every little bit makes a difference.

The Muurrbay team headed to the Bellingen Readers & Writers Festival to celebrate books, language, and culture with the community during the long weekend.

Saturday began with Uncle Gary participating in the Welcome to Country and Culture panel at the Memorial Hall alongside curator, writer, artist and activist Djon Mundine, moderated by Seth Jordan. It was a fantastic discussion exploring language, culture, and history.

Later in Maam Gaduying Park, Uncle Gary joined Brother Steve Morelli and Micklo Jarrett, with Nell Higgins facilitating a special session celebrating Muurrbay's 40th anniversary. The conversation reflected on the importance of language and culture, and the significant impact Muurrbay has hadβ€”and continues to haveβ€”as a Regional Language Centre.

We had a fantastic time connecting with so many people throughout the festival. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stall for a chat, shared stories, or purchased one of our publications.

If you missed us at the festival, our publications are still available for purchase through our website www.muurrbay.org.au
