πŸ’› Meet Rebecca and Andrew Thompson, our new Village Managers at Warner Close.

"We are Rebecca and Andrew Thompson, and we are very pleased to meet you all and excited to be here.

Rebecca is the village manager and brings experience across both management and hospitality, having previously worked alongside Stella and Scott for more than four years as their assistant and relief manager at Riverbank Village. Andrew is the village chef manager and draws on extensive hospitality and culinary experience to provide delicious, well-balanced meals throughout the week.

In 2019, we became village managers at Riverbank Village, where we spent more than seven years building a strong sense of belonging among residents. We encouraged new friendships, supported community groups, and celebrated the connections residents built. After a well-earned rest in a warmer climate, we are refreshed and ready to begin our time at Warner Close.

We have now been in the village for about a month, and it has certainly been busy. It has been lovely getting to know the residents, their support networks and social groups, while learning the village layout, exploring the local area, and appreciating the qualities that make this place special. Andrew has been keeping everyone fed and happy, with compliments coming thick and fast, and Rebecca has been out with the gardening team, spreading mulch and shaping the ornamental pear trees along the driveway.

Anna and the team at MMACG have been wonderfully supportive and understanding as we have found our feet here.

Both of us are also excited about the recently announced expansion at Warner Close. Seeing new homes added means welcoming more people into this community, and we are grateful for the support in helping it grow.

Setting high standards for ourselves are important, so our residents can enjoy their best experience of village living, and we intend to uphold those standards over time. The support we have felt already encourages us to build new relationships and strengthen existing ones, so our residents can have every benefit that comes from a happy, welcoming community.

We are excited for the future and what it will bring."

A statement from CEO Anna Howard, on behalf of Murray Mallee Aged Care Group:

"With the permission of his family, it is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Robert Sexton, a cherished friend, colleague, and long-serving member of the Murray Mallee Aged Care Group Board.

For more than two decades, Robert dedicated himself to serving both our organisation and the wider community with unwavering commitment, humility, and generosity. While his contribution to MMACG was immense, it was the person behind the title that made the greatest impact.

Robert joined the Murray Mallee Aged Care Group Board in 2002 as the Southern Mallee Council Representative. Over the next 24 years, he became a highly respected and valued Director, serving as Chairman for two years and providing thoughtful leadership during periods of growth and change. His calm nature, and unwavering focus on doing what was best for our clients and communities earned him the respect of everyone around the Board table.

To those of us who worked alongside Robert, he was far more than a Board member.

He made it a priority to visit our office regularly, at least once each week, not because he had to, but because he genuinely wanted to stay connected with the people who made the organisation what it is. He never walked through the office without stopping to speak with staff, asking how they were, sharing a laugh, or offering words of encouragement. Robert had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel valued, regardless of their role. His infectious smile brightened countless days, and he never missed an opportunity to have a friendly joke with us.

Robert possessed that rare quality of leadership that came not from authority, but from kindness, authenticity, and genuine care for others. His compassion and quiet wisdom helped shape the culture of our organisation and will remain part of his enduring legacy.

His commitment to service extended well beyond MMACG. Robert proudly served for 16 years as a Councillor with the Southern Mallee Council, including a term as Mayor, always advocating for the people and communities he loved. He was recognised as a Life Member of the Geranium and District Bowling Club in honour of his 25 years of dedication and contribution, and he was a much-loved member of both the Murray Bridge RSL Club and the Murray Bridge RSL Bowling Club.

Despite his many community commitments, Robert's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband to Jenny, a proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and nothing was more important to him than the people he loved. He treasured spending time with his five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and, together with Jenny, frequently travelled to Victoria to visit their eldest grandson, Jordan.

Robert leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of service, integrity, compassion, and friendship. He showed us that true leadership is measured not by titles or accolades, but by the lives we touch and the difference we make to others. His kindness left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

The Board, Executive and staff of Murray Mallee Aged Care Group have lost not only an exceptional Director, but a trusted friend whose presence will be deeply missed.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Jenny, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We hope they find comfort in knowing that Robert's legacy lives on through the countless people whose lives he influenced, and through the organisation he helped shape over so many years.

Thank you, Robert. Your friendship, guidance and unwavering commitment to our community will never be forgotten."

All In for Reconciliation βš«οΈπŸŸ‘πŸ”΄

National Reconciliation Week is an opportunity to learn about our shared histories and cultures as we work towards achieving reconciliation in Australia. This year's theme give us an opportunity to reflect and engage in meaningful, collective action to all work together in championing First Nations people. Reconciliation will not happen without us being all in on it.

Murray Mallee Aged Care Group continues to respectfully acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the traditional owners of this land, as we contribute towards reconciliation.
