💜 AN IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT Community Connection Day! 💜

After a lot of consideration, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our upcoming Community Connection Day.

Some of you may already know that last week I was unexpectedly rushed into emergency surgery to have my appendix removed after it decided to become very angry! 😅

We knew this left us with a very short timeline, but we genuinely hoped I would recover quickly enough for us to still go ahead.

Unfortunately, my recovery hasn't gone quite as smoothly as we'd hoped.

We have looked at every possible option and asked ourselves whether there was a way to make the day happen regardless. There are so many amazing people who have already volunteered their time, donated, organised activities, prepared things behind the scenes and supported this event. Walking away from that commitment has been incredibly difficult.

But sometimes you have to accept that your health needs to come first.

So, after weighing everything up, we've made the decision that postponing the event is the right thing to do.

❤️ BUT PLEASE HEAR THIS — COMMUNITY CONNECTION DAY IS NOT CANCELLED!

It is simply POSTPONED.

We absolutely still intend to hold Community Connection Day, and in fact, we already have plans to run more than one in the future.

The whole idea behind Community Connection Day is bringing our community together, creating opportunities, celebrating inclusion and making sure everyone has a place where they belong.

That hasn't changed.

If anything, this gives us the opportunity to take a breath, get my health back on track and come back with an even bigger and better day.

To every organisation, business, volunteer, sponsor, community group and individual who has supported us so far — thank you. 💜

Thank you for believing in what we're trying to create.

Thank you for giving your time.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

And thank you for being part of this journey with us.

We will share more information about the new date as soon as we can.

For now, I'm going to concentrate on getting better — apparently my appendix has decided that running community events wasn't enough excitement for one week! 😂

We'll see you at Community Connection Day. Just not quite when we originally planned. 💜

Since Dee was rushed into surgery last week, there have been lots of messages and queries regarding our Community Connection Day!

Her timing of a failing organ was pretty great right? 😒 Anyone who knows Delilah, knows she never does anything half arsed!

Thing is, at this point we're honestly not sure...

Ideally, everything will go ahead as planned and we will have an amazing day. As I'm sure you can understand though, her health and well-being absolutely, must come first. Recovery is different for everyone and I will be making sure Dee takes as long as she needs, even if she disagrees 🤷‍♀️

We still have a couple of weeks (HEAPS of time... right??? 🤯) so please just give us a few days to see how things progress. We promise to update you all with any necessary information as we make decisions.

🐍 Meet Sandra! 💕

This gorgeous little lady is one of the very special members of The Sanctuary family, and she’s a familiar face at many of our events.

Sandra is a beautiful Children’s Python who often joins us for our “Scales Are Not Scary” visits, where she helps us show people that snakes really aren’t something to be afraid of! 🐍✨

She plays a very important role in helping us educate our community about snakes, reptiles, responsible animal care and the importance of respecting all creatures — big and small.

And before anyone asks… 😂

❌ Sandra is NOT up for adoption!

She lives with us permanently and has an important job to do. Her calm nature and gorgeous personality make her a wonderful ambassador for her species, and we love having her as part of The Sanctuary family. ❤️

So if you see Sandra at one of our events, make sure you come and say hello! You might just discover that snakes are pretty amazing after all. 🐍💜

UPDATE

Apologies for the delay — there’s been a lot going on over the past few days.

I went in for surgery to have my appendix removed on Friday afternoon. Thankfully, everything has gone as well as could be expected, and I’m hoping to be home over the weekend. That will depend on whether I can become a little more independent and, most importantly, whether we can get this pain under control!

I really want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has sent messages, love and well wishes. I’m sorry if I haven’t replied to you personally, but please know that I’m reading every single one.

Every message has made me feel a little less scared and a little less alone, and I honestly can’t tell you how much that means to me.

I'm ok, just a little bit of an emergency and I am being very well cared for. We are not sure how long I will be here, just waiting on scan and test results at the moment.

🚨 IMPORTANT COMMUNITY CONNECTION DAY UPDATE 🚨

While the rest of us have been busy organising activities, gift bags, animals, craft supplies and approximately 47 other things… Tom has been given the very important job of assembling a TRANSPORTABLE CHANGE TABLE. 😂

Because little people need looking after too! 💕👶

We want Community Connection Day to be welcoming and accessible for the whole family, so we’ve made sure parents and caregivers have somewhere clean, comfortable and convenient to change their little ones.

Tom’s currently putting it together… which means there’s a 50/50 chance it will either be a fantastic change table or a very expensive piece of modern art. 🤣🔧

We’re hoping for the first option.
