🌸⚡Mullum Gardens “Big Backyard" PERMABLITZ 🌳🌸⚡
Setting up a climate resilient food plant motherstock garden !

Want to get active (and a little dirty!) in creating more local food security -then come along this Friday 8th May for a PERMABLITZ of the 'big backyard' in Mullumbimby.

It's an incredible 1 acre permaculture education space in the Mullum Gardens - We are in the process of revitalising it following a fallow period as a mother stock garden to distribute climate resilient food plants for free to our community and create an ongoing space for education and skill sharing!

✨date: Friday the 8th of May
🌱where: at the Mullum Gardens 'Big Backyard" - a 1 acre established but overgrown garden that was previously Byron Community College Permaculture School
🌸what : get your hands dirty and help us transform a negleted space into a thriving resource for our community, we'll have light refreshments on the day
✨ link to rsvp in the comments

Join the permablitz to help us as we clean up and prepare the ground and do our first round of planting - We'll be in the hands of and learning from local permie legends and there's already an incredible diversity of food plants in the space to take home cuttings, alongside gaining more knowledge of the plants we can grow to feed our friends and families in uncertain times.

Lets seed hope, yummy food and positive futures together!

🌱 There’s wisdom here — let’s share it

At Seed Northern Rivers, we’re thrilled to be bringing a new mentoring program to life — connecting local leaders and grassroots projects with people in our community who can walk alongside them with experience, perspective, and care.

If you’ve walked a path and feel called to support others — this might be for you.

Because none of us do this work alone.

To bring the thriving, regenerative region we know is possible to life, it takes community supporting community — sharing knowledge, backing each other, and growing together.

There is so much wisdom, experience, and skill already here — and this is a chance to put it to work in a meaningful way.

Mentoring is simple: a few conversations over time that can make a real difference.

We’re hosting a short 30-minute online gathering to share more and explore whether it might be a good fit.

What would it look like if more of our food was grown, shared, and celebrated right here in the Northern Rivers?

This Saturday in Mullumbimby, Relocalise Northern Rivers — a member of the Seed Northern Rivers ecosystem — is hosting a community conversation on strengthening our local food systems.

🍅 Hear from passionate local voices
🌿 Explore regenerative, place-based solutions
🤝 Connect with others working towards a thriving local food network

As global supply chains become more fragile, this is a chance to come together and reimagine a food system that’s grounded in our region — resilient, connected, and thriving.

At Seed Northern Rivers, we’re proud to support grassroots initiatives like this — growing the networks and collaborations that make real, regenerative change possible.

A big thank you to Byron Shire Mayor Sarah Ndiaye for bringing such wonderful energy to our From the Ground Up - A new stage for local changemakers at the Mullum Gardens.

Sarah was not only the first one on the dance floor as the band got going — she is also a founding member of the Seed Giving Circle, helping to seed this community-powered model of grassroots giving from the very beginning.

In this video you can see her celebrating alongside members of the Bundjalung Bush Food Alliance — a project of The Returning Aboriginal Corporation, a grantee of the Seed Giving Circle — with Mindy Woods, Auntie Danza and Seed Northern Rivers Executive Director Techa Beaumont.

We love seeing Byron Shire Councillors — and especially our Mayor — showing up in such a genuine way to support community-led giving, local leadership, and the incredible environmental initiatives emerging across our region.

We also acknowledge the important role Byron Shire Council plays in supporting the Mullum Gardens, through the lease, policy support, and programs that help community gardens in the region continue to thrive.

This is what it looks like when community, culture and regeneration come together.
