Speeding is the single biggest cause of death on NSW roads. Speeding is not just travelling above the speed limit but also driving too fast for the conditions (such as wet road or a bend in the road). Drive to the conditions and so that you, and others, survive.

A Fantastic Day at St Matthews Secondary School!

Today our Mudgee VRA Rescue Squad had the pleasure of visiting St Matthews Secondary School to speak with their Year 10 students about the importance of driver safety. We were genuinely impressed by the students’ engagement, maturity, and thoughtful questions throughout the session.

During our presentation, we discussed the five major causes of accidents and injury — driver distraction, speeding, failing to wear a seat belt, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. We shared real photos, videos, and practical demonstrations to help students understand the true stopping distances of vehicles and the ripple effects that unsafe choices can have on families and communities.

To finish off the visit, we gave the students a tour of Rescue 1, allowing them to explore our equipment and learn more about what we do on the front lines of road rescue.

We were thrilled to hear such positive feedback from the students, many of whom told us they found the presentation valuable, eye-opening, and worthwhile.

A big thank you to the staff and students at St Matthews for welcoming us so warmly. We’re grateful for the opportunity to help educate young drivers and passengers—staying safe on the road is something we can all play a part in. 🙌🚑✨
