Montrose Scout Group supports Boomerang Alliance and Scouts Victoriaโs push for the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme to increase to 20c!

On March 30, the Mt Waverley Scout CDS Depot became the launchpad for a powerful new partnership between Scouts Victoria and Boomerang Alliance ๐ค
Together, we're pushing for a stronger Container Deposit Scheme and shining a light on a simple truth: while the cost of running Scout Groups has soared, the 10c refund hasnโt changed since the early 2000s. That gap is hitting volunteers and community groups hard.
The solution? Itโs time to make it 20c ๐ฐ
Why it matters:
๐น Only 40% of the 3 BILLION containers sold in Victoria last year were recycled through the CDS
๐น Higher refunds = higher return rates
๐น Less litter, more impact
An alliance of 36 councils is backing the call, urging the Victorian Government to step up, expand eligible containers, and build a system that actually works for communities.
This isnโt just about recycling. Itโs about fairness, cost of living, and building a circular economy that holds real value.
