Community Learning isn’t just for professional support workers.

It’s for the people serving cups of tea.
Packing food parcels.
Welcoming someone into an op shop.
Sitting beside someone who is having a hard day.
Leading volunteers.
Opening the doors of a church or community space.

If that sounds like you – or someone on your team – we’d love you to join us for 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 & 𝗦𝗲𝗲.

“𝘐'𝘥 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱... 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘐 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵.”

That's exactly why we created the Fast Haven Collective.

Offering accommodation to someone is a significant decision. We don't expect prospective hosts to figure everything out by themselves.

The 𝗙𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 provides information, pathways and support to help you explore what might work, understand what needs to be considered, and navigate the journey.

And support doesn't necessarily stop once someone has a place to stay. Our Welfare Coordinator can also walk alongside lodgers where appropriate, helping connect them with support and pathways towards greater stability.

You don't have to be ready to become a Host to contact us.

Sometimes the first step is simply a conversation. 💛

Exciting news for Knox! 💙

We're delighted to see Knox City Council taking steps towards establishing a local Winter Shelter, with funding now available for a community organisation to lead the way!

Stable One has had the privilege of working alongside Council officers as they've explored our Winter Shelter model and shaped their Expression of Interest process. It's been so encouraging to see their commitment to finding a practical, community-led response to homelessness.

Across our Winter Shelter Network, we've seen the incredible things that can happen when churches, volunteers and community organisations come together to offer more than just a bed for the night – creating places of welcome, dignity, connection and belonging.

We're excited about the possibility of seeing the Network grow into Knox and look forward to walking alongside the local community as this opportunity unfolds.

Are you part of a church or community organisation in Knox? Perhaps this is an opportunity for your community to get involved!

Check out Council's announcement for more details, and for more information on the Winter Shelter model, please feel free to reach out to us.

NEWS | NEW WINTER SHELTER PROGRAM FOR KNOX - KNOX NEWS 13/10/26
Knox currently has no overnight winter shelter program, but that is about to change. Council has funded one in the 2026-27 Budget and is now searching for an organisation to run it. Expressions of interest close on 10 November.

𝗔 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸. 💛

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 is back this November — bringing people together for a Pilates session and morning tea, while raising funds for Stable One.

It’s a chance to move, connect and do something practical to support our work with people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity.

Last year’s event was a huge success. We’d love to make this year’s just as special.

We’re delighted to welcome 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝘀, General Manager – Policy and Strategic Engagement at 𝗤 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿, as our Friday evening keynote speaker at the Queensland Winter Shelter Network Conference.

With more than 25 years’ experience across local government and community settings, Dean brings significant experience in homelessness strategy, policy, advocacy and cross-sector collaboration. In his role with Q Shelter, he is engaging with housing and homelessness issues across Queensland – including the very different challenges facing metropolitan, regional and remote communities.

Dean will help us step back from the day-to-day work of Winter Shelter and consider the bigger picture: what’s happening across Queensland, where the pressures are, and what the future might look like.

🌏 𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆.

A reminder that homelessness isn't just about not having a roof over your head. It's about the absence of a safe, secure place to call home – somewhere to belong, to feel settled, and to build a future.

At Stable One, we see what can happen when ordinary people choose to respond with empathy and practical hospitality. Whether it's opening a church building, offering a spare room, volunteering a few hours or simply making someone feel welcome – we all have something we can contribute.

Of course, homelessness is complex, and lasting solutions require much more than individual acts of kindness. But that doesn't mean we should underestimate the difference those acts can make.

This World Homeless Day, we encourage you to consider: what do I have that I could share?

Because while none of us can solve homelessness alone, each of us can be part of the response. 💙

A heart to help matters enormously. But sometimes a heart to help also needs practical skills to go with it.

How do we listen well?
How can we better understand experiences different from our own?
How do we walk alongside without taking over?
How do we help create spaces where people feel they belong?

These are some of the kinds of questions behind 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗢𝗻𝗲.

We’re inviting volunteers, staff and community leaders from across our local community – including churches, community organisations and services – to come and 𝐓𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 & 𝐒𝐞𝐞 on 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟕 𝐍𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫.

𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐚 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲?

Perhaps you’ve seen a Winter Shelter happening somewhere else and wondered what it would take to get something started locally.

Perhaps your church is looking for a practical way to respond to people experiencing homelessness.

Or perhaps a few conversations have already begun – but you’re not quite sure what comes next.

Our Winter Shelter Network Conferences are a great place to start.

Come and meet people from communities already running Winter Shelters, hear what they’ve learned, ask plenty of questions and discover what it takes for local churches and community partners to work together.

We love this challenge from Mark.

The Fast Haven Collective brings together people who want to respond creatively and practically to housing need. And for people of faith, Mark’s words offer an added challenge – what might it look like to put our faith into action?

Could something you already have – a spare room, a self-contained space, an investment property, a caravan or even a piece of land – become part of the answer for someone who needs a safe, affordable place to live?

💛 Perhaps you can’t help everyone. But perhaps you can help 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦one.
