Mount Waverley Rotary Welcome to the Rotary Mount Waverley's page. We are a group of individuals helping the local community and raising money for international projects.

Globally we are a worldwide organization that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 32,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. In addition to our local community projects, the Rotary Foundation is one of the World's largest chari

ties with projects including global polio eradication and disaster relief. This all sounds very grand, but Rotary's component part, it's people, are just ordinary folk who get together to have fun and in the process make a difference, sometime on a very large scale. The following are some of the programs and activities undertaken by our Club:
Provide skills for new generation youth leaders. Provide opportunities for youths to understand parliamentary style international debate. Provide opportunities for selected youths to experience life in another country as an Exchange Student. Help fund over 100 local community based service providers and charities. Sponsor, organise and set up recreational clubs (Probus) for retired people. We take special interest in the promotion of leadership, high ethical standards and vocational excellence in our community and its businesses. Some examples are:

Awards for good citizenship,
Awards for academic leadership,
Awards for vocational excellence,
Mentoring and leadership presentations,
Awards for disadvantaged youth and young people with disabilities

The Monash Youth Music Festival is a significant annual music festival held in August every year. This Festival draws well over a thousand young musicians from all over Melbourne to compete in forty-nine sections including Ensemble and Choral competitions, solo competitions and non-competitive mini recitals.

We are delighted to have supported the Festival over many years and this year were the sponsors of the ’18 years and under String Solo Rotary Club of Mount Waverley Award’ which supports 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes.

Many children in Siem Reap have illiterate parents with little to no education making job prospects extremely difficult. With little to no income, food can be scarce for families resulting in malnutrition and life-threatening conditions.
Australian NGO, Feeding Dreams Cambodia, provides one meal a day to children attending school, free educational programs and family monitoring to ensure the entire family receives assistance. Feeding Dreams collaborates with Cambodia Rural Students Trust - CRST with some CRST volunteers acting as teachers. Feeding Dreams also have a number of one-off donation options including the provision of bikes to families.

We were delighted to have donated 20 bikes, with another 20 in the near future, to children receiving support through Feeding Dreams.

Members Beth and Loretta had a busy second day in Siem Reap Cambodia joining forces with a local Rotaract Club and members of the Cambodia Rural Students Trust - CRST, a non-government organisation with the mission of helping break the poverty cycle through education. Together they put together pack of books at a local village which are for a portable library sponsored by the Rotary Club of De Toulon France. Following which they helped compile sanitary kits for girls. In-between hands on project support they were entertained by a guitar group at the CRST School, dinned with friends and discussed needs for our potential new school project.

🌍 Rotary in action!

Currently members Beth and Loretta are in Cambodia. We have a long-standing international project supporting Prey Dangherm, a rural school located in the Siem Reap Province of Cambodia. We have supported the school in a number of ways over the years including sponsoring the English Program which covers a teacher and materials, providing and repairing playground equipment, provision of sporting equipment and helping to improve the school's infrastructure - including the construction of classrooms and helping to assist in hygiene education.

In addition to visiting Prey Dangherm, our members will also be taking the opportunity to investigate another school that may benefit from future Rotary support as well as supporting the local Rotaract Club. Stay tuned for more updates over the week.

These projects are possible in part due to the generosity of our local community in supporting our fundraising ventures. Your kind contributions help improve lives and communities. Thank you!

The Rotary Club was delighted to welcome thought provoking guest speaker Hish Fernando, who delivered an insightful overview presentation on the art and science of effective storytelling.

Hish explored how storytelling is far more than a communication tool. Drawing on the science behind human connection, memory, and emotion, he demonstrated why compelling stories are powerful in influencing audiences and building meaningful engagement. He also highlighted the critical role storytelling plays in modern marketing, helping organisations connect with customers in an authentic and memorable ways.

A thought-provoking session that left members and visitors with valuable insights into the power of stories to inspire, persuade, and create lasting impact.

Hish holds many roles including Tech Investor, Founder of the Social Roast (50% of profits are reinvested into initiatives that empower individuals, strengthen communities, and create lasting opportunity), director on numerous boards, TED Talk speaker, and even chair of Chair of Tenpin Bowling Australia. He also happens to be a RYLA alumnus from 1998 and was presented with a Rotary Alumni pin at the conclusion of his presentation.

This week's Rotary meeting featured a splash of colour and creativity as fellow Rotarian Andrew showcased a collection of his paintings during a 'Talent Behind the Badge' segment. 🎨

Andrew brought along several of his paintings and shared the stories behind them. He explained the inspiration behind some of his work and gave us a glimpse into the artistic process that transforms an idea into a finished masterpiece.

It was both inspiring and enlightening to see the world through an artist's eyes and learn more about one of our talented members.

Rotary is so much more than service projects and meetings. It's about people. One of the greatest gifts of Rotary is the opportunity to connect with people from all corners of the world. 🌏

Through Rotary, we meet incredible individuals, share stories, ideas and experiences across cultures, and form friendships that transcend borders. It's a reminder that no matter where we come from, we have so much in common when we're united by a shared commitment to service and community.

Members, friends, and their furry companions enjoyed a beautiful morning of fresh air, great conversation, tasty treats, and lots of doggy fun. Our canine guests proudly rocking their Rotary bandanas, handmade by one of our talented members! 🐕‍🦺💙
