🇲🇹 Viva Malta, il-Maltin u l-Komunità Maltija ta’ Melbourne! 🇲🇹

What a wonderful evening we had at the Ċentru Malti in Parkville on Saturday, 19 September 2026, as we came together to celebrate the 62nd Anniversary of Malta’s Independence.

The Malta Independence Day Reception was proudly hosted with the support of MCCV President Mrs Antonia Camilleri, the MCCV Executive and staff, together with Consul General of Malta in Victoria, Dr Gioconda Schembri, and the staff, who assisted with the arrangements for this special occasion.

We were honoured to welcome members of the Victorian Diplomatic Corps, Minister Natalie Suleyman MP, and Evan Mulholland MP, representing Victorian Opposition Leader Jess Wilson MP, along with members and friends of the Maltese community.

MCCV President Antonia Camilleri opened the evening, followed by a prayer from Rev. Fr. Lonnie Borg MSSP. Consul General Dr Gioconda Schembri then delivered her address in both English and Maltese and announced the inaugural recipients of the Malta High Commission in Canberra’s annual certificate “For Outstanding Work” with the Maltese community in Australia.

The recipients of this special recognition were Rev. Fr. Tarcisio Micallef MSSP from New South Wales and Mr Mario Sammut from Victoria. Their certificates were presented by the Consul General during the evening.

Minister Natalie Suleyman MP and Evan Mulholland MP also addressed those gathered for this important celebration.

Following the formal proceedings, guests enjoyed an evening of conversation and fellowship, accompanied by finger food, sweets and refreshments.

At the request of MCCV President Antonia Camilleri, Emanuel Brincat captured the evening through photography. A very special thank you to Emanuel for the wonderful photographs commemorating this memorable occasion.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making the evening such a wonderful celebration of Malta, its independence, and our proud Maltese community in Victoria.

Celebrating Malta Independence Day — 21 September

Għeluq is-Sena tal-Indipendenza

Today, the Executive of the Maltese Community Council of Victoria proudly joins Maltese communities across Australia, Malta and around the world in celebrating Malta Independence Day.

On 21 September 1964, Malta took an important step in its history, becoming an independent nation. Today, we celebrate not only this milestone, but also the rich heritage, traditions, language and values that continue to connect Maltese people wherever they call home.

For the Maltese community in Victoria, this day is an opportunity to reflect on the journey of generations before us, honour the contribution of Maltese Australians, and celebrate the strong bonds that keep our community connected.

May we continue to pass our culture and traditions on to future generations, while proudly embracing the multicultural Australia we are fortunate to call home.

Father’s Day is an important opportunity to pause and recognise the fathers who have helped build strong, loving families through their dedication, guidance and sacrifice.

It is a day to honour the men who have given their time, wisdom and support to shape the lives of their children and create lasting values within their families.

Fathers play a powerful role in teaching resilience, kindness, responsibility and love. Their influence is seen not only in the families they raise, but also in the legacy they leave for future generations. Often, their quiet sacrifices and steady presence become the foundation of a happy and successful family life.

Today, we say thank you to all fathers, grandfathers, father figures and mentors who have raised great families with strength, patience and care. You are appreciated, respected and celebrated. Happy Father’s Day.

The Executive of the Maltese Community Council wish every father a Happy father’s day.

Jum il-Missier huwa aktar minn data fuq il-kalendarju — huwa mument biex nagħrfu u niċċelebraw il-missirijiet li taw il-ħin, is-saħħa, l-għerf u l-imħabba tagħhom biex irabbu familji mill-aqwa. Il-gwida tagħhom tifforma l-karattru, is-sagrifiċċji tagħhom ħafna drabi ma jidhrux, u l-eżempju tagħhom iħalli wirt dejjiemi fil-ħajjiet ta’ wliedhom u n-neputijiet tagħhom.

Għada huwa jum biex ngħidu grazzi lill-missirijiet, il-figuri paterni, in-nanniet u l-mentors kollha li kienu maġenb il-familji tagħhom f’kull staġun. Il-paċenzja, ix-xogħol iebes u l-appoġġ bla kundizzjonijiet tagħkom jgħinu biex jinbnew djar mimlija valuri, reżiljenza u mħabba.

Lil kull missier li għen biex irabbi familja mill-aqwa: intom apprezzati, rispettati u ċċelebrati. Jum il-Missier it-tajjeb.

L-eĹĽekuttiv tal-Kunsill tal-KomunitĂ  Maltija jawgura lil kull missier Jum il-Missier it-tajjeb.
