🐾 WE NEED YOUR HELP, OUR CATS NEED HOMES 🐾

Kitten season is coming, and we urgently need to create some space for the cats who will soon need our help. 💔

We currently have a number of beautiful, timid cats in our care who need time, patience and plenty of resources to help them come out of their shells and learn to trust people.

But with so many cats coming through our doors, those resources are stretched. The sooner we can find loving homes for the cats who are ready, the more space and support we can give to those who need extra time.

💕 Could you be the person who gives one of our cats their forever home?

Whether you’re looking to adopt a confident companion or a quieter cat who needs a little patience, there is a cat waiting to meet their person.

Nightshade is a special little boy in more ways than one. His journey to this point has been one of resilience, determination, and second chances. ❤️

Nightshade is an 11 month old Domestic Short Hair who is looking for a calm, patient home where he can continue building his confidence and feel safe with his sister, Rakali.

✅ Gentle, and sweet natured
✅ Shy with a playful side
✅ Must be adopted with his sister Rakali
✅ Must be indoors only
✅ Would suit a calm family environment with respectful teenagers OR an adult-only home

Nightshade and his siblings arrived in our care as tiny kittens, desperately unwell with severe, untreated cat flu. Their future was uncertain, and they required intensive care, medication, and countless hours of dedication from shelter staff to help them recover. Thanks to that care, and their own fighting spirit, Nightshade and his siblings pulled through and blossomed into the happy, healthy kittens they are today.

When Nightshade was assessed by our veterinary team prior to desexing, they discovered a congenital abnormality affecting part of his reproductive anatomy. Despite thorough veterinary assessment, there are still some unknowns about what this may mean for his urinary system in the future.

The good news is that Nightshade is currently a happy, healthy kitten who is completely unbothered by his condition. He spends his days playing, exploring, and enjoying life just like any other young cat. While our veterinary team cannot predict whether his abnormality will cause any issues as he grows, his adopters should be aware that ongoing monitoring, and potentially further veterinary treatment, may be required in the future.

While Nightshade has come such a long way, he is still a sensitive little soul. He can be quite shy in new environments and will need patient adopters who are happy to let him settle in at his own pace. Once he feels safe and secure, his sweet personality begins to shine through.

One thing that gives Nightshade confidence is the companionship of other cats, in particular his sister, Rakali. He relies on her for reassurance and security, so he must be adopted alongside her. Having Rakali by his side will make the transition into his new home much less overwhelming and help him continue to thrive. Meet Rakali here.

To help him feel safe and continue building his confidence, Nightshade is looking for an indoor-only home and would be best suited to adopters with previous cat experience who understand that trust takes time and are happy to let him settle at his own pace. He could happily live with calm, respectful teenagers, but a home with young children is likely to be a little too busy and overwhelming for this gentle boy at this stage of his life.

Webster is one of those cats who may take a little more understanding to find his person, but once you get to know him, it’s easy to see just how special he is.

He arrived at the shelter as a terrified stray, completely shut down and unsure whether people could be trusted. Slowly, with patience and time, Webster has begun to let his guard down. He now enjoys attention from his carers, loves a chat and is showing us the curious, cheeky personality that was always there underneath the fear. And if you’re looking for the way to Webster’s heart, food is certainly a good place to start.

Webster is around 9 years old and FIV+, and he must be the only cat in the home. He can become overstimulated at times, so he needs someone who will understand his boundaries and allow him to build trust at his own pace. He would suit an adult-only home or a family with older, cat savvy teenagers, and he must be kept indoors.

Webster may not be the easiest cat to find a home for. He needs the right person, a quiet environment and someone willing to see past the things that make him a little different. But there is something really special about watching a frightened cat slowly realise that he is safe, and Webster is finally beginning to show us who he really is. 🤍

Sweet and affectionate, Butterscotch is looking for a patient home where he can continue building his confidence and learning all the things a young dog needs to know. ❤️

Butterscotch is an 18 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback X who is looking for someone who can give him the time, guidance and positive training he needs to become the wonderful companion he has the potential to be.

✅ Needs training
✅ Sweet and affectionate boy
✅ Needs confidence around other dogs
✅ Medium energy level

Butterscotch is a sweet boy who can take a little time to warm up to new people, but once he does, his friendly, energetic personality shines through. He loves spending time with his humans and is always happy to be part of the action.

He is currently learning his toilet training and is making good progress. Butterscotch can be quite vocal in his kennel, which may be due to some separation anxiety, but he settles well once he’s with his people. He is still learning how to interact with other dogs and would benefit from continued positive exposure and controlled introductions. While he did react during one interaction, it appeared to come from uncertainty rather than aggression.

Butterscotch is looking for a patient home that will continue building his confidence through positive training and socialisation. With time, guidance and plenty of love, he has all the potential to become a wonderful and loyal companion.

Sometimes, the cat you never expected becomes the one you can’t imagine life without. ❤️

Wizard Jon wasn’t the cat they had planned to foster.

When they asked about taking in a female kitten as a companion for their territorial male cat, the suggestion that came back was a little unexpected…

“What about Wizard Jon? FIV+, 10 years old and with not many teeth left?”

That one question changed everything.

Over the next year and two months, Wizzy transformed from a frightened little cat into the happiest, cheekiest companion. He was endlessly food motivated, tapping on legs whenever he thought there might be another meal coming, waking from even the deepest nap the second someone headed for the kitchen.

He picked up a few naughty habits from his feline brother Mowgli too, like sitting on the dining table and hiding under the bed whenever visitors came over. His family would cheer every time he stood up for himself during Mowgli’s rough-and-tumble games.

One of his favourite places? The bathroom. He absolutely loved the shower and would loudly demand to be let in.

In February this year, Wizard Jon was diagnosed with advanced kidney failure.

When asked whether they could continue fostering him, there was never really a decision to make.

Giving him back never crossed their minds.

From that moment on, he was family.

They had dreams of officially adopting him once they found a house. His name was signed on birthday cards. He was even there in spirit at their wedding in France.

Although kidney disease eventually took him, they were able to spend his final days completely focused on loving him, spoiling him and saying goodbye.

His family shared these beautiful words with us:

“We always considered him and treated him as our own. We are immensely grateful to Save a Dog and Divvya for bringing Wizard Jon into our lives.”

Wizard Jon may have arrived as a foster cat, but he left this world knowing exactly what it felt like to be deeply loved.

Stories like Wizzy’s remind us why senior cats and FIV+ cats deserve a chance. They are just as loving, just as playful and just as capable of changing someone’s life forever.

If you’ve ever considered fostering or adopting, please don’t overlook the older cats or those living with FIV. Sometimes they’re the ones waiting the longest for the love they deserve.

Rest easy, Wizard Jon. Thank you for reminding us that every cat deserves a family. 🌈🐾❤️

Overlooked time and time again, Stevie has grown into a happy, well rounded pup who just needs someone to see how special he is. ❤️

Stevie is a 3 year old American Staffordshire Terrier X who is looking for an experienced handler who understands his anxiety and can give him the patience and ongoing socialisation he needs.

✅ Good with cats
✅ Needs an experienced handler familiar with unpredictable behaviour in new situations
✅ Continuous socialisation needed
✅ Adult home required
✅ Medium energy level

At first, Stevie can be intimidating around new people, but once he warms up, he’ll show you his goofy, loveable side. With his adorable little underbite and signature commando crawl, Stevie knows how to make everyone laugh, he’s a born entertainer. Give him a pool, some toys, and a walk in the sunshine, and you’ll see him at his happiest.

Although Stevie has many good traits, he will need someone that is experienced with unpredictable behavior at times that stems from anxiety. Stevie’s potential new home might have to meet him a few times before making it official.

Stevie does have some skin allergies, but they’re easily managed with proper care. In return, he’ll be your loyal sidekick, bringing joy and laughs to every day. Life with Stevie is rewarding, there’s nothing better than seeing this sweet boy’s trust grow and watching his playful spirit shine through.

We had a very special visitor drop in yesterday! ❤️

Former SADS Staffy, Ember, stopped by with her family to say hello and show her support for all her K9 friends still waiting for their own homes.

We absolutely love seeing our former shelter dogs out there living their best lives, and Ember’s story is a beautiful reminder of why it’s sometimes worth keeping an open mind when adopting.

Ember’s family didn’t originally come to SADS looking for her, but after getting to know them, our team thought she could be the perfect match. They trusted our recommendation, gave Ember a chance, and almost a year later, it’s pretty clear she landed exactly where she was meant to be. 🥰

Not every shelter dog gets that chance, particularly those who might be overlooked because of their breed, age, appearance or simply because they weren’t the dog someone initially had in mind.

We’re incredibly grateful to Ember’s family for trusting us and opening their home to her... and as if visiting wasn’t enough, they also brought along food donations for the animals currently in our care. ❤️

A huge thank you as well to everyone who came along to our Save a Staffy Day yesterday. Whether you came to meet our adoptable dogs, learn more about adoption or fostering, buy some merch, or simply show your support, we loved having you there.

And who knows… maybe one of the Staffies you met yesterday will be the next Ember. 🐾

Bring home a slice of happiness and adopt Pepperoni!Pepperoni has recently arrived in our cattery and is looking for her forever family. 🧡

This sweet girl is a wonderful companion who simply loves being around people. She is very affectionate and people-oriented, happiest when she can spend time with her favourite humans and soak up all the love and attention.

With her lower energy nature, she would be well suited to a calm home where she can enjoy a relaxed lifestyle and plenty of quality time with her family. She doesn’t need constant excitement to be happy, a cosy spot, a loving person nearby and some gentle attention are all she needs.

Pepperoni needs adopters who are home most of the time and will also require regular coat grooming and care. We do not know if she will live with a feline or canine friend at this time.

If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate companion who will happily be by your side, this lovely girl could be the perfect addition to your family.
