We are pleased to share that Hawthorn Toastmasters Club Inc. has been recognised as a Smedley Distinguished Club for the 2025 - 2026 Toastmasters year 🎉

Named after Dr Ralph C. Smedley, the founder of Toastmasters International, the Smedley Distinguished Club award recognises clubs that demonstrate strong performance, member achievement, leadership, education and club quality.

This is a genuine club-wide achievement and reflects the effort, support and commitment of our members throughout the year 🎤

Thank you to Laura Martin, Eastern Division Director, and David Martin DTM, Past District Director, who accepted the trophy at the District event on behalf of Hawthorn Toastmasters, and to our Immediate Past President, Sara Garvey, who accepted it at our 1037th club meeting on behalf of the club.

Please join me in congratulating Phillip Schluter who came 2nd place in the International Speech Contest at the Eastern Division contests today.

On 3 December, Hawthorn Toastmasters had our final meeting for 2025, and enjoyed the annual Christmas dinner together.

The meeting featured a Christmas theme, with members wearing interesting outfits. The trivia game brought the meeting to a climax when members were divided into six groups and debated specific topics such as “Do you support drones replacing Santa Claus to deliver Christmas gifts?”

At the end of the meeting, we also demonstrated progress towards the newly introduced “Smedley Distinguished Club”. What a fun night!
