This week, ELAA lodged a submission to the Senate References Committee Inquiry into the State of Australia's Early Childhood Education and Care System in Rural, Regional and Remote Communities.

Informed by member feedback gathered through a targeted survey and direct engagement with the ELAA team, our submission highlights the challenges services face across the sector.

The submission calls for reforms to address workforce, inclusion and service sustainability challenges and improve equitable access to quality ECEC in rural, regional and remote communities.

Working with Children Check changes are coming on 19 October 2026

Significant changes to Victoria's Working with Children Check (WWCC) scheme will take effect next week. These changes include new requirements for organisations engaging employees and volunteers in child-related work through WWC Connect, as well as mandatory child safety training for new applicants and WWC renewals.

We encourage all ELAA members and all employers who engage employees or volunteers in child-related work, to attend this important webinar hosted by the Social Services Regulator (SSR) on Wednesday 14 October, 2.00pm-2.45pm.

It's a valuable opportunity to understand the upcoming requirements and ensure your organisation is prepared ahead of the 19 October commencement date.

Hi everyone, I’m looking forward to leading a panel tomorrow at ! 🎤

We’ll be exploring the professional bravery needed to navigate change and reform while keeping children at the centre of our decisions.

I’ll be joined by leaders from ELAA’s membership, representing a Committee of Management-governed service, an Aboriginal community-controlled service and an Early Years Management organisation.

Together, we’ll explore how different governance models are responding to increasing complexity while supporting children’s rights, quality outcomes and strong community connections.
