Reduced speed limit - Margate

Reduced speed limit - Margate

Safer speed limit on the Channel Highway, south of Margate 👇

This speed limit change extends the existing 60km/h speed limit south of Margate by approximately 420 metres towards Barretta.

🚧Why the change? 🚧

The speed limit change follows a community submission for a speed review.

Our assessment supported a safer speed limit in this area because of several crashes involving vehicles turning in and out of driveways and intersections.

🚧How will the lowered speed help improve safety? 🚧

It will help reduce the risk of crashes by allowing drivers more time to safely turn on and off the highway and giving them more time to stop to prevent a crash.

🚧When does the change come into effect? 🚧

The changed speed limit will come into effect once the new speed limit signs have been installed, which is expected to be during the week starting Monday, 15 June 2026. ‘New speed limit ahead’ signs will also be placed to warn road users of the change.

Well done to all those who have been attending and presenting at the resumed TPC hearings. There is one 1 in progress atm. Hearing will then adjourn for 2 mths approximately.
One thing that has become apparent - the the TPC will hear from those who have bought a property whilst the Kingborough LPS is under determination. There has been a precedent set as they allowed a new owner to speak during the Flowerpot hearings and today they would have allowed new owners in the Kettering area, so if you are a new owner and the previous owner made a representation or you personally put in a submission recently, or your property is included in a group rep, we would recommend you attend the relevant hearing and ask for an opportunity to speak.

In a state the size of Tasmania, you wouldn’t think there was much of a disconnect between the city and the bush. But many are forgotten, our acting editor Philip Young writes 👉 https://bit.ly/3RGYTZI
