Channel Men's Shed Members were recently invited to inspect the Hydro Workshops at Cambridge. A group of 24 inspected the amazing facility and the work undertaken by Hydro employees.
Workers are currently overhauling and rebuilding generators at both the Gordon and Poatina power stations. CMS Members were impressed by the skills of the workers and the machinery being used particularly the size and capability of the machines.
The tolerances these people work with and their ability is unbelievable.
While we were there a group of trainee graduates were also working under supervision.
This was followed by lunch at Tas.Gourmet Seafoods.
A teriffic day out for CMS Members

The Committee would like to take this opportunity to welcome Hasitha Dissamayaka to the Shed.
When Channel Men's Shed started as an organisation in 2011 it was envisaged the Shed would have around 40 members. The facility and the wide range of interests which can be accomodated has increased membership to where we are today.

Guest speakers at Channel Men's Shed monthly Members and Partners barbecue were Tom Crawford from the Fishermans Shed and his fishing accomplice Andrew Pender from IMAS.
They gave CMS Members a few clues on how to catch size flathead and how not to catch undersize fish. They also gave advice and encouraged Members (and interested partners) to try alternative catches such as Kingfish, Calamari etc.

Channel Men's Shed Members recently hosted a visit from Dr Bryan Walpole (Tasmanian Men's Shed Association "Dr Shed) with 25 second year medical students from the University of Tasmania College of Health and Medicine.
Students inspected the Channel Men's shed facility and also discussed with Shed Members how men participate in the Shed and the effect Shed membership can have on Men's health and wellbeing.
We feel sure the students left with a much better understanding of the role Sheds play in men's lives.

Channel Men's Shed Members recently completed an order for 50 nesting boxes for the Department of Natural Resources and Energy. The nesting boxes will be used at the Orange Bellied Parrot breeding facility at Five Mile Beach.
CMS sourced materials, arranged for the materials to be CNC cut out and assembled. The boxes are made from Maxi-T board, a plastic material, the benefit being that the nesting boxes can be steam cleaned, rather than being single use plywood as used in the past. Each nesting box has around 3 metres of plastic welded seams to seal the joints. There is a disposable plywood floor fitted.
At times we had up to ten Members working on assembly.
Shed Members delivered the final batch and also had the opportunity to inspect the facility and understand the work that goes into saving the Orange Bellied Parrot from extinction.
