🐨❤️ Wildlife emergencies don't keep office hours.

At a time when RSPCA Queensland's Wacol Wildlife Hospital has had to temporarily reduce its admission hours to 8am–5pm (except for koalas), I feel especially grateful that Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital continues to accept sick, injured and orphaned wildlife 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

As a volunteer wildlife rescuer and koala carer, I see firsthand how important this commitment is. Every little joey in my care has benefited from the expertise, compassion and dedication of the incredible AZWH team.

Behind every rescue is a team of veterinarians, nurses, volunteers and carers working together to give our precious wildlife a second chance.

With the hospital costing around $2.5 million a year to operate, community donations are essential.

🌿 Little Zeila is doing so well! 🐨💚

After losing her mum in a car accident and suffering respiratory trauma and an eye injury, this little girl has had a very difficult start.

But Zeila has settled into care remarkably quickly. She's eating well, gaining weight and showing us just how resilient these little joeys can be. 💕

She'll return to Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital on Wednesday for a recheck of her lung and eye injuries.

We're hoping for some encouraging news. For now, it's lovely to see her looking so content amongst the gum leaves. 🌿🐨

Gumnut and Logie still share such a strong bond 🐨💚🐨

With a few unusually cold, wet days here in the hinterland, these two have been snuggling up together. What better way to keep warm than a cuddle with your best buddy? 🥰

🐨💔 Meet Zeila – a brave little survivor.

Beautiful orphaned koala Zeila has checked in for a few weeks of care and recovery. Sadly, her journey began with tragedy.

Zeila was riding on her mum's back when they were struck by a car. 💔 Tragically, her mum didn't survive.

Thankfully, someone cared enough to call for help. Volunteers from Wildlife Rescue Queensland responded to the heartbreaking scene and promptly transported Zeila to Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital.

Zeila suffered lung trauma and an eye injury. She's now receiving treatment and medication from the hospital's dedicated veterinary team.

🍼 As an older orphan, Zeila receives her milk through a tiny 1 mL syringe rather than a teat. At her age, she would instinctively bite the teat, potentially damaging it and increasing the risk of milk entering her lungs and causing aspiration pneumonia.

Thankfully, this little girl already LOVES her milk! ❤️

To help her feel secure, Zeila has a cuddly teddy and soft blanket. And perhaps the sweetest part? She's found a little friend in Gumnut, another orphaned female koala of a similar age. 🐨🐨💕

❤️ Wildlife rescue is truly a team effort.

From the caring person who made that crucial phone call, to the volunteers who faced a traumatic scene, and the incredible vets, vet nurses and support team at Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital.

This amazing facility provides expert treatment to injured and sick Australian wildlife, free of charge, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Every person plays an important part, from that first phone call through to the hopeful day of release.

I'm forever grateful for the trust placed in me and the privilege of caring for our beautiful endangered koalas. It's something I'll never take for granted.

For now, Zeila has a warm bed, a teddy to cuddle, a new friend in Gumnut and plenty of love. ❤️

🐨💚 TOSH IS BACK IN THE WILD! 💚🐨

Today was a very special day as beautiful Tosh was returned to the wild after recovering from a dog attack that left him with multiple bite wounds.

Tosh's second chance began with Veira, who noticed that he was missing fur and knew something wasn't right. Thankfully, she made the call for help. 💚

From there, dedicated wildlife volunteers worked together to rescue Tosh and transport him to Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, where he received the treatment and care he desperately needed.

Thanks to the incredible skills and dedication of the vets, vet nurses and volunteers at Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, Tosh made a wonderful recovery and was ready to return to the wild. 🐨

And today, on a stunning property, he finally got that chance!

Of course, Tosh's release came with a little surprise! 😂🌿 The first tree we chose was already occupied by another koala! Clearly, the locals hadn't received the memo that Tosh was moving back into the neighbourhood. 🐨🐨

I also want to give a very special thank you to Jane, who had the pleasure of releasing Tosh today.

Jane is one of those wonderful people who quietly gives so much of her time to wildlife. She has helped with numerous rescues and transports over the years.

I first met Jane nearly eight years ago, when we were both volunteering at Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. All these years later, Jane is still there, giving her time to clean enclosures and help care for the koalas behind the scenes.

It's volunteers like Jane, who turn up week after week, year after year, who make such an enormous difference to our wildlife. 💚

Tosh's story is a beautiful reminder that saving one koala takes a whole team. From the person who notices something is wrong and makes that first phone call, to the rescuers, transporters, veterinary team and the volunteers who care for them during recovery.

Every single person plays a part.

Thank you to Veira, Jane, everyone involved in Tosh's rescue and the amazing team at Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital.

Today it was a privilege to be part of Mintie’s journey and release him into a beautiful new home. 🌿🐨

Mintie was found alone, crossing a dirt road—far too young to be without his mum. Shortly after arriving in care, he needed treatment for chlamydial conjunctivitis.

After a few months in care, he returned to Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital to prepare for release. Today was his day to head back into the wild and begin exploring. 💚

They have a big enclosure and five pots full of fresh leaf, but today they’ve chosen the same branch. 💚

Gumnut and Logie are getting so big! 🐨🌿

These two little orphans are growing beautifully and absolutely loving their fresh leaf. There’s something very special about watching them become stronger, more confident and more independent every day.

For now, life is all about good leaf, full tummies, lots of sleep and having a little koala friend close by. 💚

Every gram gained is another step towards the day they’ll be ready to return to the wild where they belong. 🌿🐨

Logie and Gumnut are still the best of friends 🐨💚, with Jasper keeping a watchful eye on them from above.

All three are growing up so quickly — getting bigger, stronger and more independent every day. It’s such a joy watching these little orphans grow and thrive. 🌿🐨
